Community and Social Development - City of Lethbridge Volume 4 Issue 30 Sept 28 2015
THECONNECTOR In the News….
Friday, October 4 at 6:30 pm. Gather at City Hall. Walk to Galt
Gardens. Ceremony at 7 pm. Please join the Aboriginal Council
of Lethbridge and their partners at this annual vigil to raise
awareness and to honour our First Nations sisters who have
been abused and murdered in Canada.
"The fact that nearly 600 mothers, daughters, sisters, aunties
and grandmothers have been lost to violence in this country,
make this the most pervasive human right crisis facing Canada
today. The violence experienced by Aboriginal women and
girls in Canada is a national tragedy, and their loss is felt in
every Aboriginal community from coast-to coast-to-coast."
(Native Women's Association of Canada).
Get the tools you need to help improve transportation
for seniors in your community
Researchers at the University of Alberta have developed a
Toolkit that can be used by communities to implement alternate transportation services for seniors in the
community. They are offering a workshop in Lethbridge on October 15, 2015. Individuals, local government
representatives, voluntary organizations, and seniors organizations from Lethbridge and surrounding com-
munities interested in championing such an initiative are invited to attend this free, half-day workshop. The
goal is to provide attendees with the information they would need to start or expand an alternate transpor-
tation service for seniors in their communities. Space is limited to 30 individuals. Registrants are accepted on
a first-come, first-served basis. Register early.
