Patient Assistance Funds provide temporary assistance to low-income patients living in the Upper Cumberland who are struggling with disease, sickness or injury.
Thanks to generous and caring donors, the Foundation is able to help patients with expenses not covered by insurance for things like medication, specialized equipment, and preventative healthcare services. We also often assist patients and families with transportation, groceries, utilities, home needs and other critical needs.
Generally, when a patient is referred to the Foundation for assistance, their need is immediate and critical. Frequently, we act as a final safety net for Upper Cumberland residents who do not have family or friends to rally around them during troubling times. Care is taken to refer patients to additional community resources once their immediate needs are met.
The Foundation operates a number of restricted patient assistance funds to help various patient groups, including: Cancer Fund, Diabetes Fund, Heart Fund, Hospice Fund, Pediatric Fund and the general patient assistance fund called Caring Hands Fund. Together, these funds will provide help to roughly 2,000 local patients this year.

The majority of referrals to the Foundation come from social workers and case managers at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, however; the Foundation works with a number of other organizations including: Cumberland River Hospital, first responders, area hospice providers, physician offices, county school systems, TTU, the Upper Cumberland Healthcare Prepared-ness Coalition, and dozens of Upper Cumberland non-profit organizations.
Thanks to several forward-thinking donors, the Foundation recently helped the Emergency Department at Cookeville Regional Medical Center improve patient care by installing a new Glidescope®. The Glidescope is a fiber optic intubation system which allows for improved visualization of the airway and vocal chords. Dr. Ken Colaric, CRMC ER Medical Director, reports that the Glidescope “significantly increases patient safety as well as the success rate of intubation.” Intubation is often performed in emergency situations, and tools like the Glide-scope improve accuracy, save time, lessen the chance of injury and improve patient comfort.
Recently, Joyce Arnold approached the Foundation and shared with us about the journey of one little foot making a big im-print on the world. Joyce has been honoring the brief life of her son, Cooper, by chan-neling energy into “Coopers Journey” since June 10th, 2015. Each year, “Coopers Journey” tackles a project or program with the aim of helping families dealing with the loss of a baby. This year, the goal is to raise funds to support a caring cradle for donation to the Labor and Delivery Department at Cookev-ille Regional Medical Center.
The Caring Cradle is a device that cools and offers a more dignified and comfortable way for patients and families to spend time with a baby which has passed away. A restricted fund for this effort has been established at the Foundation or donations may be made at https://fundly.com/coopers-journey-the-gift-of-time# or call 931-783-2003.

Honoring Care ChampionsA great way to honor a caregiver who has been especially meaningful to you is to make a donation in their honor to a Foundation fund or program. Of particular meaning for employees is the “Employee Assistance Fund” which aids employees who face a disaster situation like fire, flood, or personal/family injury. Your donation would honor your caregiver and support Cookeville Regional Medical Center (CRMC) staff when they need help.
Planned Giving – Legacy SocietyAn investment in the Foundation is a special gift to patients now and in the future. Legacy Society members pledge support to a Foundation endowment fund through bequests or deferred gifts. Members may establish an endowment
