Her ankles can now get to neutral, and she is standing. She can now be properly positioned in a wheelchair with her hips and knees at 90 degrees and ankles in neutral.

The e-stim was set at 50 percent duty. For cycle time, we made sure to pick a 1:5 ratio, so we decided on 10:50, meaning 10 seconds on, 50 seconds off. We did select a ramp of two seconds to prevent the electrode from “biting” so quickly.

One example is a recently admitted patient to skilled services status post dehydration, hypernatremia and acute metabolic encephalopathy. She was max+ A with bed mobility and transfers. Her sitting static balance was poor+ with forward head, severe thoracic kyphosis, posterior pelvic tilt, hips internally rotated, and

ankles positioned in 35 degrees of plantarflexion and 25 degrees of inversion.

She came from another SNF where she was bed bound and dehydrated, and we could not get her properly positioned in her wheelchair. She was a tough patient, to say the least, but clinical excellence means that everyone gets a chance.

We want to hear what you are doing to achieve clinical excellence in your facility!

Excellence in Action

We emphasize an eyes up approach and collaboration when it comes to determining potential for improvement and innovative treatments.

A success story from our Physical Therapy Team in New Albany, MS

Clinical Excellence for the Win

We determined Russian e-stim may make a difference, and it was applied bilaterally to the anterior tibialis in order to get dorsiflexion and eversion. Electrodes were placed further apart in order to get a more superficial response and to make sure none of the gastrocs were being recruited.

Send your success stories to your Area Manager!

“She was a tough patient, to say the least, but clinical excellence means that everyone gets a chance.”
