Overview

Customers often ask what wireless microphone solutions work with Polycom audio and video

conferencing solutions. Shure answers this need with the Shure Microflex® Advance™ (MXA)

Microphones. The Shure MXA Microphones can be easily connected to Polycom conferencing audio

processors and video solutions. This guide will step the reader through the steps required to connect the

Shure MXA Microphones to various Polycom hardware.

Shure Microflex® Advance™ Microphones Implementation with

Polycom Solutions

What You’ll Need

Audio Network Interface

The MXA Microphones are Dante™ Output devices. In order to interface the MXA microphones with the

Polycom devices, a Dante to Analog converter is required. Shure manufactures a number of compatible

devices including the MXWANI4, MXWANI8, ANI4OUT-BLOCK, and ANI4OUT-XLR.

Audio Cables

To connect the Shure MXWANI4, MXWANI8, or ANI4OUT-BLOCK products to Polycom devices, you will

need block connector audio cables.

Both the Shure and Polycom 3-pin block connector pinout are the same. The pin assignment is

described in the table below.

Pin 1 +

Pin 2 -

Pin 3 GND

Finally, here is a useful diagram for how the 3-pin block connector can be wired to several other popular

connectors. Use the XLR Female wiring to connect the ANI4OUT-XLR to any Polycom device.

Using MXA910 Echo Reduction with the RealPresence Group Series

The Shure MXA910 provides built in Echo Reduction which can be used with a video codec such

as the RealPresence Group. Shure Echo Reduction employs a simple way of reducing acoustic

echo by preventing far end talkers from activating local microphone channels. Very effective as

a front end to codecs with single channel AEC.

o Ensure that the MXA910 is on the same audio network as a Shure ANI4IN audio network

interface, using the steps described above.

o Using a Y cable, split the audio output signal from the RealPresence Group to connect to

both your loudspeaker system and to the Shure ANI4IN Audio Network Interface. This

will ensure the far end signal is routed both to the room audio system and can be sent

into the MXA910

o Using Dante Controller, Route the ANI4IN transmit audio channel to the MXA910 Echo

Reduction Reference In receive channel.

o Use the Shure Discovery Application to open up the MXA910 Control Software

o Navigate to the Automix page and, using the drop down menu, set Echo Reduction from

“Off” to the desired setting. Use “Low” setting for more subtle processing, Use

“Medium” or “High” in challenging room environments.
