Describing the baseline • What has been the main drivers that motivated your engagement in COOPEUS?

• Previous cooperation with Emerging research infrastructures in Europe

(EMSO, SIOS and LIFEWATCH). Lessons learned: • Distributed systems are tricky • Domain concepts are worth to look at • Harmonisation required

• Access to environmental data still a key issue (INSPIRE, Aarhus Convention etc.)

Describing the baseline • How was the situation before COOPEUS in regard to data exchange and

coordination across the Atlantic? • Heterogenous infrastructures • Differing development status (roadmaps) • Many involved scientific and data domains • Little cross-discipline (knowedge) exchange • Some cross-atlantic exchange • Big Chaos ;)

Describe the major Scient./Tech./Collab. Achievements • COOPEUS approach: base line harmonisation

• Share infrastructure ‘architecture’ information • Identify core standards • Harmonize policies

Describe the major Scient./Tech./Collab. Achievements Status quo assessment • Objective 1: Identify standardization level • Workshops & questionnaire • Results:

• Differing development status • But many communalities • Metadata: good availability & accessibility, comparable standards • Data: good availability but access restrictions, good standardisation level

Describe the major Scient./Tech./Collab. Achievements Cooperation with GEOSS: •Use GEOSS CSR to improve transparency of capabilities among Ris •Provide information on the available resources and services of each RI •Identify common standards and interfaces •Raise visibility of RIs by publishing services and data via GEOSS •Test the data broker concept

In EU terms: A description of the main S&T results/ foreground

Describe the major Achievements – The Broader perspective (all the achievements that is not directly linked to specific tasks) • Lessons learned:

• Standardisation & harmonisation level among COOPEUS RI is higher then expected ! • But still a long way to go… • Policies still are a major issue, open access rules need international harmonisation

(e.g. a global INSPIRE) • International RI cooperation needs a platform (GEOSS, RDA) • Best fit with GEOSS, cooperation should be continued

• Registries are a key instrument ! • ‘Purpose free’ data harmonisation vs. Use case scenarios (too little scientific benefit?)

In EU terms: The potential impact and the main dissemination activities and exploitation of results

How will the outcome of COOPEUS affect the future Collaborative in your scientific field ? • What is the expected Short-term/long term benefits of the COOPEUS activities?

• Low fruit, core standard approach to be applied in other projects (FixO3, AtlantOS etc) • COOPEUS data policy is an excellent template!

• Continuation of work within ENVRI+ • Apply COOPEUS policy template in projects (see above) • Cooperation with GEOSS

Page 14: Connecting Research Infrastructures in the Environmental ...€¦ · Describing the baseline • What has been the main drivers that motivated your engagement in COOPEUS? • Previous

In EU terms: The potential impact and the main dissemination activities and exploitation of results

How will you disseminate outcome of COOPEUS? • Account for your strategy /plans for dissemination of COOPEUS achievements

• Last deliverable: ‘joint standardisation hand book’

• Will be a summary of lessons learned an best practices • Good potential for a publication (e.g. CODATA journal or ESSI)

• Disseminate and continue COOPEUS work in the ENVRI+ wider community

Page 15: Connecting Research Infrastructures in the Environmental ...€¦ · Describing the baseline • What has been the main drivers that motivated your engagement in COOPEUS? • Previous

In EU terms: The potential impact and the main dissemination activities and exploitation of results

Continuation of COOPEUS-like activities ? • Have the achievements of COOPEUS fostered sustainable improvement of the transatlantic

Collaborations ? • Yes, with respect to data exchange harmonisation:

• common language among data domains • transparency of capabilities (incl known unknowns) • Identification of potential interfaces

Page 16: Connecting Research Infrastructures in the Environmental ...€¦ · Describing the baseline • What has been the main drivers that motivated your engagement in COOPEUS? • Previous

Highlights/Prioritization :
