Conjunctions
I really like this girl. She’s pretty and smart, but I don’t think she even knows who I am. Do I risk embarrassing myself by asking her out or should I just forget about
her?
What is a conjunction and what does it do?
Conjunctions are connecting words.
There are 2 types of conjunctions.
1. Coordinating Conjunctions - connect words or groups of words.
and butor
And- joining similar ideas
My cousins and I enjoy riding bikes around the village.
But- contrasting between ideas
I love you but we need to take some time apart.
Or- choice between ideas
Be miserable or motivate yourself to improve.
2. Correlative Conjunctions- paired conjunctions that make an even stronger connection between ideas.
either/orneither/nor
whether/or
both/and
You either go with me to church or you don’t get to hang out with your friends.
2 choices to choose between.
I have neither the time nor the patience to put up with your silliness anymore.
No choices to choose from.
Whether you are a boy or girl, you can be whatever you want to be.
Show differences between 2 things.
Both teachers and students have to be willing to work together if they want the year to be fun.
Compare similarities between 2 things.
Use correlative conjunctions.
