A conjunction is a word that connects words, phrases, clauses, and sentences.

Conjunctions are like the glue and tape of grammar.

• Coordinating ConjunctionsAre one-word conjunctions that combine like

things: For, And, Nor, But, Or ,Yet, So: FANBOYS.

• Correlative ConjunctionsAre conjunctions that combine like things but they must always be in a pair: both...and, not only...but also, either...or, neither...nor, whether...or.

• Subordinating ConjunctionsAre adverbs that act like conjunctions. They connect subordinate clauses to a main clause: After, Because, Although, If.

• Coordinating Conjunctions: Jacob likes dogs. + Jacob likes cats. Jacob likes dogs and cats.

• Correlative Conjunction:You can also say: Jacob likes both dogs and cats.

• Subordinating Conjunctions: Sub Clause: After Tom farted Main Clause: Everyone left the room.After tom farted, everyone left the room.
