Moms are always caring.

Only moms know what’s best for us.

Their job of taking care of us is very important to our lives.

Her love is bigger than the universe.

Every mom feels what we feel, she is sad when we’re sad.

Remember to love mom while you can.

She loves us unconditionally.

Do you wonder how they can do everything?

Answer is, they use their free time for us.

You and your mom are always together no matter what sepa-

rates them.

Every Reaction By Maia M.

“Hey wait up Izzy” Amanda shouted. She, Izzy, David, Derek, and Bella were playing tag. Bella was it. “Kids come on in it’s time for math!” said Ms.Vasnama. Ms.Vasnama told the kids that they were going to have a new student. They have no idea what the kid’s name is, but all they know is that the kid is a girl. “Hello! Hi kids, how are you doing?” asked the principal walking in with the girl. “This is Annabella your new student. Annabella would you like to say anything about yourself?” “No,” Annabella said in a low and soft quiet voice. Annabella had short, neat, and frizzy hair. She had a rankled dress that was pink and had blue, red, and white flowers on it. She had worn out flats with a ribbon on her an-

kle. She had pink tights too. The kids whispered SO MANY THINGS about Annabel-la. Annabella was ALWAYS a good student in school. She was always quiet and never was mean.

The teacher showed her where her seat was. Annabella was right next to Aman-da. David started teasing Amanda about how she was sitting next to Annabella. He said things like, “Ha ha ha you’re sitting next to the outcast or should I say the orphan.” He called Anna an orphan, outcast, and so on. It was time for lunch. No one would sit next or across from An-na. She had the whole table to herself. She was sitting alone. Luckily, she brought a tiny warn out stuffed animal that could fit in her pocket. That was her only friend.

The next day Orleans Rick Elementary School had an assembly and they told the school

that they had a writing contest. Whoever writes the most touching story wins 10,000 DOL-

LARS! The kids were jumping up and down happily and exited. The assembly was over and

the kids had to get back to their class. The assembly was long and it was time for lunch.

The same thing happened like yesterday at lunch. Anna was alone all by herself with her

stuffed animal, Beanie. It was SO soft and smooth. She would never let go of it. At recess she

asked people if they would like to play slapjack. EVERYONE said, “NO.” She would do every-

thing alone with Beanie. Soon, Annabella asked Amanda, Izzy, and Bella if they would like to

play. They said no and started giggling. She hated school. The next day the same things hap-

pened, but different words came out. At recess Amanda said, “Why do you look like an or-

phan?” Annabella did not reply and ran away from them and cried in a corner almost the

whole recess. The girls did not feel bad. It felt good when they teased Anna. All they do is

laugh at her. A few days after the girls started to notice that Annabella was gone, but they did-

n’t care.

In writing class, they learned about kindness and the teacher said, “When one person is

nice to someone the next person starts kindness. It goes around the world like when water

starts to ripple. In writing their teacher got a big metal bucket with water in it. The teacher

gave the kids each one a pebble to drop. They would drop the pebble in the bucket and watch

the ripples. Their teacher wanted them to see the ripples. She wanted to show them that the

ripples are like kindness spreading around the world. It was Amanda’s turn. She tried so hard

to think of something nice she did, but nothing came to mind. She had done nothing nice for

anyone. The only thing nice she does is to make herself feel good. She was a selfish girl and

never thought of others.

Before their school ended they announced who won the writing contest. The teacher

announced that the winner was ANNA! They wanted her to come to the office to get the

money, but she would not show up. She couldn’t get the money. They tried to mail it to her,

but the thing is that they did not know where she lived. Amanda started to think about her.

She thought to herself, Oh my goodness because of me she will never be able to get the

money and I could tell she really needed it. I really am a bully. After school she went to a

pond and took several rocks and through them into the water. She watched the ripples get

bigger and bigger as time passed. She felt horrible and guilty too.

Amanda hoped that as she gets older, she will remember what happened and to be

kind. So you can see what happened with Amanda, how she felt bad for being mean and it

was too late to change it. That’s why you need to think before you speak because there’s a

reaction to everything you say. It can be a good reaction if you make someone feel good or

just say something that won’t hurt anyone. So make sure you think before you say anything.

Message from the Artist:

My primary mission is to help raise the level of students’ and teachers’ con-fidence with creating, writing and telling stories. I try to do this by developing tools that break the story creation process down into finite, very accessible tasks and into activities that are as enjoyable as they are edifying.

My hope with this is to encourage literacy, communication, and forge a strong sense of community with what I see as our most human of activities, sto-

rytelling. ~ Eshu

Biography Buddies

Miss Scull’s third grade students and Mrs. Luth’s kindergarten class worked

together on a very special project. In Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop, the third

graders have learned about biographies. Students put their learning to action as

they interviewed their kindergarten buddies to learn more about them. After the

interviews, third graders wrote acrostic poems,

a biography, and drew head shots to share with

Important Announcement: 16th Annual Respect Campaign Details Celebration on June 8th (7:15pm, City Hall Auditorium)

Dear Parents:

The Milford's Promise Board of Directors is once again presenting the Annual Respect Campaign

initiative to the youth of Milford this May in your child’s school. We are proud of the consistent,

high standards set by the schools in Milford and look forward to acknowledging the students

who are shining examples of these standards each year.

Principals and teachers have received materials associated with the Respect Campaign, including

a Respect Calendar for the month of May, to help spark conversations about the importance of

respect. Please be sure to ask your child about special lessons they have learned.

Students in each classroom have the opportunity to nominate their choice for a Star of Respect.

We recommend they consider the role model qualities below when nominating a Respect Star:

* Has self-respect * Cares for the environment and living things

* Is polite, courteous and fair * Respects the dignity and worth of others

* Fulfills obligations and commitments * Shows respect for the value of learning

* Tells the truth and acts with integrity * Knows the difference between right and wrong

* Shows respect for others' property * Respects the opinions and feelings of others

Your Principal will be acknowledging your school's Respect Stars with special certificates and

offering congratulations through school announcements and/or a school assembly.

Your Principal will select Respect Stars that will represent your school as Ambassadors of

Respect at a Respect Celebration with Mayor Benjamin Blake - to be held on Wednesday,

June 8th, at 7:15pm, in the Milford City Hall Auditorium.

All Respect Stars and Ambassadors are invited to march in the Milford Memorial Day Parade on

Sunday, May 29th, at 2:00pm. All are welcome to meet us at Daniel S. Wasson Field parking lot

at 1:15 pm to register for the parade and receive a "Milford – Where Respect Shines" t-shirt.

Parents should plan to accompany and march with their children.

Thank you for your continued assistance and support with our 16th Annual Respect Campaign.

Sincerely,

The Milford’s Promise Board of Directors
