EDUCATIONAnthony “Kwame” Har-

rison, associate professor of sociology in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sci-ences at Virginia Tech, has been named the Gloria D. Smith Professor of Black Stud-ies by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.

The Virginia Tech Board of Visitors has conferred the title of emeritus/emerita on the following: Susan Asselin, professor of special education in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences; Ron-ald Kemnitzer, professor of industrial design in the School of Architecture and Design; and Golde Holtzman, associ-ate professor of statistics in the College of Science. Mar-garet Merrill, college librarian for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, has been conferred the title of assistant professor emerita.

Carol Papillon, senior instructor and dietetic internship director in Vir-ginia Tech’s Department of Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise, was presented with the Distinguished Dietitian of the Year Award by the Virgin-ia Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Will Mather, assistant pro-fessor of physics in the Col-lege of Science at Virginia Tech, has been named the Blackwood Junior Faculty Fellow of Life Sciences by the Virginia Tech Board of Visi-tors.
