Confucius encouraged ancestor worship (praying to ancestors) because it strengthened family loyalties. During the closing years of the Zhou Dynasty society had a lot of crime, corruption and poverty. As a result of the Confucius philosophy, the Chinese think that they have become a more united society.

Long ago, you were considered rich or poor depending on what your clothes were made of. Rich people’s clothes were made with a kind of seed called hemp and were decorated with colorful designs. Poor people’s clothes were all rags. I looked at a few pictures of Confucius and noticed that he liked to wear a lot of green robes.

Do you know anybody who went to school in China? There are at least 200 schools in China. Kids in China have to go to school for 6 days. On Friday’s kids go on field trips and on Saturday’s they go to the park “lucky” but when they are at school they work work work. They have to learn 3,500 characters. Their school’s are very different from this school. They have desks and they stay in that desk for all their work. Their lunch and recess time is 2 hours and then they go back to working hard. Some kids go to after school programs and they go to other schools for it.

School in China, Chinese kids work very hard, they learn 3,500 characters. That is very different from how much we learn, children’s parents in China, are very strict about school, no playmates, no TV, no nothing just work. You probably think school is different? Well it is, no rugs, no paint on the wall, they have desks we don’t. Chinese kids go to school for 6 days a week, we go to school for 5 days a week. In China they’re strict about school, so they need to sit up straight with good posture. That’s a kid’s life in China.
