PREPARATORY PRAYER Blessed Lord, you have caused all Holy Scripture to be written for our learning. Grant that we may so hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that by patience and the comfort of your holy Word, we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. Collect of the Word from the Lutheran Service Book

Alleluia Choir

The Offering is received as the Lord's table is prepared.

*OFFERTORY VERSE: LBW 534, v 1, “Now Thank We All Our God” *OFFERTORY PRAYER [LBW pg. 87]

*PREFACE [LBW pg 88] *SANCTUS [LBW pg 89] (Isaiah 6:3; Matt. 21:9)

*PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING

P: Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on those whom You created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to bear our sin and be our Savior. With repentant joy we receive the sal-vation accomplished for us by the all-availing sacrifice of His body and His blood on the cross.

Gathered in the name and the remembrance of Jesus, we beg You, O Lord, to forgive, renew, and strengthen us with Your Word and Spirit. Grant us faithfully to eat His body and drink His blood as He bids us do in His own testament. Gather us together, we pray, from the ends of the earth to celebrate with all the faithful the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom, which has no end. Graciously receive our prayers; deliver and preserve us. To You alone, O Father, be all glory, honor, and worship, with the Son and the Holy Spirit one God, now and forever.

C: Amen. *WORDS OF OUR LORD

P: In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.

(we bow our heads briefly in reverence for the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus for us on the Cross).

Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.

(again, we bow our heads briefly in reverence for the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus for us on the Cross).

(Matt. 26:26-28; Mark 14:22-24; Luke 22:19-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-25)

*PROCLAMATION OF CHRIST

P: For as often as we eat of this bread and drink from this cup we proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. (1 Corinthians 11:26)

C: Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. (Revelation 22:20) P: O Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, in giving us Your body and

blood to eat and to drink, You lead us to remember and confess Your holy cross and passion, Your blessed death, Your rest in the tomb, Your resur-rection from the dead, Your ascension into heaven, and Your coming for the final judgment. Lord Jesus, trusting in you only for life and salvation, we pray the prayer which you taught your first disciples.

*THE LORD’S PRAYER

C: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. (Matthew 6:9-13)

Missions

October Mission of the Month: Lutheran World Relief

Every day in 35 countries, Lutheran World Relief (LWR) works to combat the causes of poverty and the dignity it robs from people’s lives. They advocate for Fair Trade that helps farming families and artisans earn a better income. LWR teaches people to better care for themselves, their communities and the environment and also teaches people how to be less vulnerable to natural disasters. LWR advocates with and for them for policy change that more fairly represents them. They counsel them after manmade and natural disasters, and help them recover with material aid. All of this is done exclusively with partners from the communities served. The partners help LWR remain incredibly efficient and effective. LWR partners let them help people help themselves…for “a day when they won’t need us at all”.

Your financial contributions to Calvary’s Mission of the Month during October go to support this worthwhile program. Use your weekly offering envelopes or a white pew envelope to contribute and note “Mission of the Month” on your check and/or envelope.

New Member Classes

Interested in membership at Calvary? Know of someone that might be interested? Prospective members are invited to join our congregation on an individual basis - since in today’s culture it is becoming increasingly more difficult to find a particular Sunday upon which all prospective members could be received into membership. Thus, we in-vite prospective members to speak with the pastor about being received into member-ship at Calvary, which is accomplished through baptism, membership transfer, and affir-mation of baptism – according to each person’s circumstances. While members will be received throughout the year on an ongoing basis, we will be offering membership orien-tation classes twice annually. While these classes are not mandatory, experience has shown that those members who participate in the classes tend to be more active in their congregations than those who do not. The classes are scheduled on different days in the hope that many more persons will be able to attend at least some of the classes.

Calvary Lutheran Church Confirmation 2012

Having made public profession of your faith…

Do you intend to continue in the covenant God made with you in Holy Baptism:

to live among God’s faithful people, to hear his Word and share in his supper, to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed, to serve all people, following the example of our Lord Jesus, and to strive for justice and peace in all the earth?

“I do, and I ask God to help and guide me.”

Statements of Faith in Christ Jesus (A note from Pr. Roser)

It has long been the practice here at Calvary Church for confirmands to prepare writ-ten statements articulating what it is that they have come to believe, as a result of the instruction that they have received at home, in Sunday School, and in catechism class. The purpose of this exercise is not for the student to summarize everything that they have learned about the Christian faith up to this point, but for the student to demonstrate that he or she can clearly explain the Good News of Jesus Christ (the Gospel). In his first letter that is included in the New Testament, the apostle Peter writes: “But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, . . .” (1 Peter 3:15). It is expected that each con-firmed Christian will be able to explain clearly the message of Christ Jesus who was crucified for our sins, and raised for our justification (to be reconciled back to God). Why does this matter? It matters for the sake of the eternal souls of everyone with whom we might share this message. In his letter to the Christians in Rome, the apos-tle Paul explained: “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:17). God the Holy Spirit creates faith in the one who hears the Gospel and believes it.

Today, our three confirmands will promise before Almighty God, to whom they one day must give an account, that they will “. . . proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed . . .” In his second letter to the Christians in Corinth, the apostle Paul writes: “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Cor. 5:19-21). For the sake of the unbeliever, you and I (and all Christians everywhere) are made ambassadors of Christ Jesus, in order that we might bring them to their Savior. Christ Jesus died for the sins of the whole world that no one should perish eternally, but that all should have eternal life. Your Savior therefore calls you to share this good news with everyone whom you can.

Elise Marie Baumgartner Date of Birth: October 16, 1997

Date of Baptism: December 14, 1997

Parents: Richard & Tina Baumgartner

Baptismal Sponsors: Megan Krueger, Rebecca Schwei, and Devon Tryggestad

Faith Statement:

When I was younger, I was told that the gospel could be summarized in a nutshell:

1. Jesus is born

2. Jesus dies

3. Jesus is risen

4. Jesus is established as Lord overall

5. For Us

This really hit home for me because I know that because I am human, I sin and go against God's will. But Jesus, his son, died for us to save us from our sins. That is a very powerful message that is told to us through the bible. "God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the son has life; he who does not have the son of God does not have life" 1 John 5:11-12. This bible verse basi-cally states that "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16. That is the good word of the gospel and because of it, we can live our lives to the fullest.

Regan Lynn Andrus Date of Birth: May 13, 1998

Date of Baptism: October 4.1998

Parents: Nicole and Bill Bentley Rick and Andrea Andrus

Baptismal Sponsors: Michelle Herriges and Randy Andrus

Faith Statement:

In my 2nd year of confirmation we were taught that the gospel could be summa-rized into five main points. This is something that has helped me remember what the gospel is all about.

The five points are:

1. Jesus was born

2. Jesus died

3. Jesus was risen

4. He was established as lord over all

5. For us

The main point of teaching us the five points was so that we would always have an easy way to remember the gospel. He died for us. As in this bible verse “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). This verse is pretty much saying that we should have no other God. He is our one and only God.

"In His love of humanity, God made Jesus Christ, who has no sins, to be sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God" (2 Corinthians 5:21). "Because of Jesus' death on Earth, he saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit" (Titus 3:5). "After the third day he rose again, and sent us to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19-20).

In the waters of baptism, God granted me the forgiveness of my sins. As I now affirm my baptism, and join the family of faith, I profess my love for God. His son Jesus Christ, my lord, presents the perfect model of God's Ten Commandments for the Christian lifestyle I attempt to live. In this life I shall lead by glorifying his holy name, and spreading the great news of Jesus Christ. For as God's Word guides me as an instruction for my life, I hope to build a strong positive relation with Him. "For God who said, 'Let light shine out of darkness,' made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ" (2 Corinthians 4:6).
