Welcome

The University campus has a variety of meeting rooms and specialist areas which will suit the needs of most clients. Details of these may be found within this Information Pack. Most of our rooms are equipped with audio-visual equipment (data projector, screen and PC) the use of which is included within the delegate package rates. Other equipment such as flipcharts, slide projectors and video-conference facilities may be available for a supplementary charge. Our qualified and experienced in-house catering team ensure that meals and refreshments served as part of our conferencing and meeting packages enhance the experience of our clients and their delegates. Menus vary on a day-to-day basis, and we can of course, cater for vegetarians, vegans and those with special dietary requirements as long as we know about these in advance. For special conference dinners, etc., our qualified chef will meet with clients beforehand to plan a menu to suit the occasion. In keeping with other conferencing and meeting venues, and to ensure that we operate safely and hygienically within the law, we regret that clients are not permitted to bring their own food & drink onto the campus. We are delighted to receive enquiries and will help with the planning and delivery of your meeting or conference to ensure it is exactly what you want, so do please contact us if you require any further information, or if you would like to discuss availability.

The City of Lincoln

Lincoln is one of the most stunning cities in Britain - steeped in history, but with all the facilities one would expect of a modern vibrant city.

The northern boundary of the city is marked by Newport Arch. Built in the 2nd century, the Arch marks the route of Ermine Street, and is the only Roman Arch in the country still in daily transportation use.

Leading from the arch towards the City Centre is Lincoln’s famous Bailgate with it’s se-lection of eclectic shops and restaurants.

This historic uphill area of the City has, as its centrepiece, a magnificent Norman Cathe-dral. Once the tallest building in the world, it was described by John Ruskin, ‘I have always held and proposed against all comers to maintain that the Cathedral of Lincoln is out and out the most precious piece of architecture in the British Isles’

On the opposite side of the Cathedral Close and the 14th century Exchequer Gate is

Lincoln Castle. Commissioned by William the Conqueror in 1068, some four years before he commissioned the building of the Cathedral, the Castle is currently undergoing a major restoration project and is due to reopen in 2015.

Lincoln Cathedral owns one of only four copies of the Magna Carta and one of two copies of the Charter of the Forest. The Castle re-development will en-able both to be on display to the public.

From Castle Square, Steep Hill leads down to the more modern City Centre. Voted Britain’s Best Street in 2012, this quaint cobblestone lane houses shops & restaurants in some incredible buildings.

Despite the modern shops to be found “downhill” in the cur-rent city centre, Lincoln’s his-tory is never far away - High Bridge is the oldest bridge in England to have houses/shops built on it and Brayford Wharf, the centre of Lincoln’s “chain restaurant” industry, sits alongside the Brayford

Pool and the Roman Fosse Dyke, a reminder of the days when Lincoln was a major port.

The city (and the county) are well known for local produce, and as well as frequent Farmer’s Markets across the city, there are plenty of shops specialising in the great taste of Lincolnshire.

BG Venues is just a 10 minute walk from the Bailgate and historic Lincoln - ideal for conferences and meetings with a quality feel.
