It is my pleasure to invite you to attend the 11th Annual Conference on Financial Education on April 13-15, 2016 at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida. Over the past 11 years, the Annual Conference has become the premier gathering for financial education professionals to showcase their success stories, network with peers, develop organizational partnerships and hear from speakers willing to share their tips, techniques, and experiences for the benefit of our profession.
Through the Annual Conference we aim to provide attendees with practical, hands-on experiences so they can return home with relevant, actionable plans to improve their education efforts. Speakers will present topics which have real-world application for financial educators and which will help all of us address the challenges and shape the future of the financial education field.
The Annual Conference on Financial Education also provides an exciting opportunity for sponsoring organiza-tions to showcase their products and services to financial professionals from across the country.
In addition to our general sessions, the conference will offer three concurrent session tracks that will allow at-tendees the opportunity to customize their learning experience. These tracks will focus on behavioral economics, program design and development and outcome assessment.
As part of the conference festivities, the Institute will also be presenting the Excellence In Financial Literacy Edu-cation (EIFLE) Awards to individuals and organizations that have shown exceptional innovation, dedication and commitment to the field of financial literacy education.

Mark Kantrowitz is a nationally-recognized expert on student financial aid, scholarships and student loans. His mission is to deliver practical information, advice and tools to students and their families so they can make informed decisions about planning and paying for college.
Mark writes extensively about student financial aid policy. He has testified before Congress and federal/state agencies about student aid on several occasions.
Mark has been quoted in more than 5,000 newspaper and magazine articles in the last five years. He has written for the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Reuters, Huffington Post, U.S. News & World Report, Money Magazine, Bottom Line/Personal, Forbes, Newsweek and Time Magazine. He was named a Money Hero by Money Magazine. He is the author of four
bestselling books about scholarships and financial aid, including Twisdoms about Paying for College, Filing the FAFSA and Secrets to Winning a Scholarship.

The “5S” is a way of learning about how people feel about their financial situation and their relationship with money. Those at the top of this continuum feel that they have more than enough for themselves and their families. This “Surplus mindset” is not simply about having a “surplus” of assets, but is one in which financial wellbeing, joyful generosity, and gratitude come together. Thrivent’s goal is to help our members and society increase their financial wellbeing, move toward this mindset of surplus or abundance, and to facilitate ways for them to live their lives generously.

Presenter: Juan Luis Ordaz
This session will discuss the effect of financial capabilities on certain financial behaviors related to formal savings and credit card utilization of the banked Mexican population, based on two research articles from a national survey. This session will also share the evidence of the effect of a financial education program on some financial indicators of the participants of the program, based on the results of an impact evaluation research.

Adults who have high levels of financial well-being feel in control of their day-to-day and month-to-month finances. How do children become adults with high levels of financial well-being? In this session, learn more about classroom tools and resources you can use to help youth build financial capability. We will spotlight the CFPB’s Curriculum Review Tool and teaching pedagogy, a new framework designed to help teachers select learning and teaching strategies that build youth financial capability.

What seems like the end of a financial literacy program may well be the best place to start. Surveys, evaluations and studies – and how you can craft them – give incredible insight on hits and misses with your financial literacy lessons. Brenda Campbell, a financial literacy nonprofit leader for 10 years, will provide attendees with a framework for culling valuable information from those you’re serving today to impact how you go about business tomorrow.

This session will look at financial coaching and guiding individuals towards financial freedom. The program provides key elements to establishing personal financial coaching, by applying 5 strategies that individuals need to become financially empowered. Attendees will look at this program as a tool for personal financial coaching and counseling by the Institute of Personal Finance of Puerto Rico and will explore ways to apply these coaching techniques in their own environments.

This presentation defines behavioral economics and how it can be used to tackle the current state of Millennial and Youth personal financial education. Through interactive games and supporting academic literature, speakers demonstrate three central biases (exponential, procrastination, and myopic) linked to financial decision-making. This session concludes with references to books such as Nudge, demonstrating that countering prevalent biases offer opportunities for improving the financial state of youth.

This session discusses ethics, giving those working in financial services a better idea of what is expected of them by employers, clients and co-workers. Will I be able to attend sessions in multiple concurrent session tracks?Yes. Attendees are able to participate in any session throughout the conference.
Will I be able to attend the Excellence In Financial Literacy Education (EIFLE) Awards Dinner?Yes. All attendees and sponsors receive complimentary attendance at the EIFLE Award Dinner and are encour-aged to attend. Please indicate whether you will attend the EIFLE Awards Dinner on your registration to ensure we have the correct number of meals available.
Will I be able to bring a guest to the Excellence In Financial Literacy Education (EIFLE) Awards Dinner?Yes. All guests not registered for the conference will be able to attend the EIFLE Awards Dinner for an additional $50.00 per meal.
If I am presenting at the conference, do I need to complete an attendee registration form?Yes. Upon selection as a presenter, you will be provided with a special link for registration.
Will I be able to attend the conference if I register as a sponsor?Yes. Sponsorship covers the cost of the exhibit booth, all conference meals, the EIFLE Awards Dinner and at-tendee registration (number of attendees will depend on Sponsorship level). Any additional staff will be required to pay an additional attendee registration fee.
Will I be required to stay at the Conference Hotel?No. Attendees are welcome to make their own lodging arrangements, but the Institute for Financial Literacy has arranged for discounted room rates for all conference attendees staying at the conference hotel. In addition, stay-ing at the conference hotel helps the Institute to keep the Attendee Registration Fee as low as possible. Can I transfer my registration to another person?Yes, subject to conditions. How many attendees can I expect at the conference?Approximately 200.
What industries do attendees represent?Anyone with an interest in financial literacy, counseling and education is welcome to attend. Attendees typically volunteer or have work-related duties in personal finance and represent a broad cross section of industries. These industries include but are not limited to social services, non-profits, K-12 education, higher education, government, military, debt management, banks, credit unions and other financial services indus-tries. The exact mix varies from year to year.
Are international attendees welcome?Yes. While attendees are mostly from the United States, each year we have a small but growing representa-tion from around the globe. Previous attendees have represented Canada, Mexico, the Philippines, Turkey, and the U.K.
