Welcome Message:

Local Host

Dr. Joy Kamakamaewailani Rodriguez

Beijing Forestry University

Welcome To Hawaii!!

On behalf of Myself and the ICEAS, I’d like to extend a warm E Komo Mai (Welcome)

and Aloha!

If this is your first time in Hawaii, then you’re in for a lifetime of memories from this

Paradise. I was born in England, but have lived in Hawaii over 30 years ago, so this is

my USA home! The Hawaiian people are exotic and friendly, much like its tropical

weather, providing an ‘aesthetic’ cultural buffet.

Our Conference location is in Waikiki, on Oahu, the 3rd largest and most populace

island, with the State Capital, Honolulu. Located on the south shore of Honolulu,

Waikiki was once a playground for Hawaiian royalty. Known in Hawaiian as "spouting

waters," Today, Waikiki is Oahu’s main hotel and resort area and a vibrant gathering

place for visitors from around the world.

Waikiki has been showcased in countless legendary films and TV shows (like Hawaii

Five-0, Magnum PI) and is famous for its beaches. Also, enjoy family-friendly

attractions like the Honolulu Zoo and the Waikiki Aquarium. Among the

various things to do, high-end boutiques, shops, and restaurants can be found all along

Kalakaua and Kuhio Avenues and at places like the Royal Hawaiian Center,

the Waikiki Beach Walk and the International Market Place. After the Waikiki sunset,

the fun continues with amazing nightlife, HULA shows, and live music everywhere!

Best of all, Waikiki is within a half hour of a variety of other Oahu attractions, like

Diamond Head Crater (for you hiking enthusiasts), Pearl Harbor, Iolani Palace,

the Nuuanu Pali Lookout and Hanauma Bay (for you snorkelers). Other notable points

of interest nearby include the Ala Moana Center (Hawaii’s largest outdoor shopping

Page 5: Conference Programiceaas.org/data/file/20190730/20190730025800_96785.pdf · flowers everywhere. Hawaii is truly ‘Heaven on Earth’”. So, again, I say “E Komo Mai” ... Rtm

center) and Chinatown.

From Hawaiian royalty to Regional Cuisine, Waikiki continues to be an evolving

expression of Aloha.

Lastly, if you have extra time, there are other islands you can visit, also, like: The Big

Island (Hawaii) known for its active Kilauea volcano, Maui (known for its lush valleys

and waterfalls), Lanai (Pineapple haven) and Kauai (The Garden Isle) with exotic

flowers everywhere. Hawaii is truly ‘Heaven on Earth’”.

So, again, I say “E Komo Mai” (Welcome) and ALOHA!!!!

Joy

1. Introduction

I, Dr. Joy Kamakamaewailani Rodriguez, an Educator, Consultant, and Video CTA

Conversion Specialist, have been traveling throughout Asia this past year, helping

educational institutions improve their video marketing efforts. There has been so

much resistance to conducting or implementing A/B Testing (which is the backbone of

any Marketing Campaign) that my speech is designed to demystify its complexity and

underscore its usefulness in relation to videos.

The trends are mind-boggling…just take a look:

i. By 2019, video will account for 80% of global internet traffic, and 85% in the US

(Cisco)

ii. 52% of consumers say that watching product videos makes them more confident in

online purchase decisions. (Invodo)

iii. Every 60 Seconds, 72 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube. (Digimind)

iv. Viewers retain 95% of a message when they watch it in a video compared to 10%

when reading it in text. (Popvideo)

v. More than 50% of videos are watched on mobile devices. (Ooyala)

vi. The average user spends 88% more time on a website with video. (Forbes

Magazine)

Most educators rely mainly on ‘analytics’ and metrics from their Hosting platforms to

determine how well they’re doing, but, that’s only half of the total picture. A/B Testing

should be implemented as the other half. The major social networks, including Google

Analytics, help you measure results using their algorithms that look at different criteria

like:

How often your video has been viewed.

Topic: Video Marketing For Educators: A/B Testing!!…

(A)lways (B)e Testing

Dr. Joy Kamakamaewailani Rodriguez

Beijing Forestry University

Page 21: Conference Programiceaas.org/data/file/20190730/20190730025800_96785.pdf · flowers everywhere. Hawaii is truly ‘Heaven on Earth’”. So, again, I say “E Komo Mai” ... Rtm

19

How long someone views your video.

How often your video appears in a person’s playlist.

The number of positive rankings/comments/likes/share, etc.

These metrics are empowering tools to help you evolve your video strategy, but

only if you understand what each number means, for example:

CTR: Click-through Rate —means the percentage of people who visit your site

and perform whatever action your site’s call-to-action (CTA) asks them to; “the

number of visitors that turn into customers.” Google pays attention to your

CTR, using it as a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) contributor. So, the basic

method of CTR and Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) is A/B (split, bucket,

multivariate) testing.

The overall success of any call to action (CTA) is measured via a conversion rate

formula that calculates the number of clicks divided by impressions, or times the CTA

was seen.

2. Methods and Testing

Here’s an example of how powerful “video” can be: Last month, I ran a multi-variate

test (A/B/C) on a Client Website without a video, with a video and with a video

contained in a popup light box.

Here were my Conversion Rate (CTR) results:

1. Without video – 6.5% conversion

2. With embedded video – 11% conversion

3. With video in lightbox pop up – 13.5% conversion

Here’s an A/B testing framework you can use to start running your tests:

Collect Data: Your analytics will often provide insight into where you can

begin optimizing. Look for videos with low conversion rates or high drop-off

rates that can be improved.

Identify Goals: Your conversion goals are the metrics that you are using to

determine whether or not the variation is more successful than the original

version. Goals can be anything from clicking a button or link to product

purchases and e-mail signups.

Generate Hypothesis: Once you've identified a goal you can begin generating

A/B testing ideas and hypotheses for why you think they will be better than the

current version. Once you have a list of ideas, prioritize them in terms of

expected impact.

Create Variations: Using your A/B testing software make the desired changes

to an element of your website, video or mobile app experience. Many leading

A/B testing tools have a visual editor that will make these changes easy.

20

Run Experiment: Kick off your experiment and wait for visitors to participate!

Their interaction with each experience is measured, counted, and compared to

determine how each performs.

Analyze Results: Once your experiment is complete, it's time to analyze the

results. Your A/B testing software will present the data from the experiment and

show you the difference between how the two versions performed, and whether

there is a statistically significant

3. Results/Conclusion

This is an interactive, Q &A, experiential session where delegates can share their

‘video conversion’ challenges and get tangible, actionable solutions.

Don’t worry………if you want to split test a video, most video creation programs

allow you to produce multiple versions of a video quickly, and provide A/B

testing tools.

So, (A)lways (B)e Testing, and here are some ideas, I’ve regularly tried, to get you

started:

1. Try two videos with different voice overs, colors/branding and music.

2. Test the video on different pages such as on a landing page vs a website.

3. Add interactive call-to-actions to the video and test them in different locations

on the player

4. Try to promote a product or service within one version of the video and see if

buyers convert

5. Experiment with different types of video content such as customer testimonials,

product videos, and sales videos

6. Test videos on social channels: post the same video on Facebook and Twitter

and see how they perform (Twitter has a limit of 30 seconds)

7. Test a video with and without subtitles and monitor the difference

8. Send a video include in an email vs the same email without that video

Women’s Initiative 2013 by the U.S.Embassy, and has been serving as coordinator for

Kansai Economic Federation (Kankeiren)’s women’s empowerment program,

supported by U.S. Consulate General Osaka.

Abstract:

The Japanese society under the current Abe administration is undergoing transition and

transformation through modification and improvement of working conditions. Japan

constructed a unique employment system with mostly Japanese males in the

mainstream and women on the periphery of the labor market in its high economic

development period. However, after the enactment of Equal Employment Opportunity

Act in 1985 (enforced in 1986), this situation has been gradually changing, and more

women seek employment on an equal basis with their male counterpart. The

government has also enacted the Act on Promotion of Women's Participation and

Advancement in the Workplace in 2015 (enforced in 2016) in order to integrate more

women in the mainstream of the business community as part of all the nation’s active

involvement. Being an unprecedented aged society, Japan is now facing, (and will

further face), a serious lack of workforce due to the population decrease, and thus it is

now starting to diversify the human resources in the business community. The

government has set out on its workstyle reform by reducing long working hours and

improving social infrastructure to support working parents so that it would create a

better working environment for existing employees in the labor force. In addition, the

government is now trying to integrate more workforce of 1) women, 2) the elderly, and

3) global human resources from abroad. In particular, women, who used to opt out of

the labor force for their childrearing responsibilities, are promoted to get into the labor

market.

The objective of this keynote address is to unravel the society’s transition in terms of

work environment and women’s perception, focusing on the present situation as well

as some of the social infrastructure, work environment improvement policies and

actions that the government and companies are taking. I herein present the current

Japanese women’s working situations as to women’s advancement in the business

community with some cases promoting women’s retention and leadership in Japanese

companies. I examined the background of Japanese women’s advancement and

described important elements of the current situation in the Japanese society. To

facilitate women’s advancement in the business community, work-life balance issues

are critical. The elements that are essential for women’s advancement in the corporate

world were examined, and in search of better working conditions, some of the unique

aspects to promote women’s career and work/life are unraveled.

Keywords: women’s career, work-life balance, Japanese society, workstyle reform
