3Combined Claims ConferenCe - march 4-5, 2014 | Hyatt regency orange County

WELCOME FROM CARYN SIEBERT, CHAIRPERSON

The year was 1988. The average claims adjuster was making $24,450. A gallon of gas was 91 cents. Popular movies included Die Hard (the original one not number five!) and Twins (Arnold hadn’t thought about being the Gubernator back then). I was still living in my parents’ house in Brooklyn, while here in California several people got together and created the Combined Claims Conference for claims professionals in the insurance industry to get together and share ideas.

Fast forward to 2013. We are now 800 attendees strong and teams at over 100 exhibit booths will await your presence in the hall. You will be able to attend classes in any of 4 educational tracks taught by fabulous professionals. Special conference features will include an action packed Casino Night, a keynote address from the Risk Manager of the Anaheim Ducks, local comics as you dine on “foods from around the world” and of course our infamous Wm. H. King, Sr. Memorial Golf Tournament. We welcome all of you – many of whom likely weren’t even born in 1988; others who probably don’t even remember when the CCC was less than 50 exhibitors and only 200 attendees; and still others who may remember meeting Mr. King before his passing.

So with that I say “CONGRATULATIONS” to the Combined Claims Conference on your 25th Anniversary! Budget Cuts. Lay-Offs. Trimming of Staff. A Recession (or two). None of these things stopped people from their quest for quality education and attendance at this terrific forum. And thus CONGRATULATIONS to YOU – yes YOU reading this in your critical role as one or more of the following: a claims adjuster, an exhibitor, a speaker, an attorney, a golfer, a committee member and/or a scholarship winner.

While many conferences have experienced decreased attendance and a drop in exhibitors, this year’s conference is the largest we’ve ever had! And next year we are off to the Hyatt in the Anaheim area of Orange County. We have signed a multi-year contract there so pre-reserving your booth for 2014 may help you for several years to come. For those of you who attend the educational tracks, the success of our golf tournament and this multi-year deal should allow us to keep attendance fees the same as this year.

With that I say PLEASE……PLEASE thank our sponsors and exhibitors for making so much of this possible. PLEASE meet and network with the bright people in the industry who are here. PLEASE interact with experienced speakers and colleagues so you win all the way around and your investment of time and money will pay dividends. And last but not least, PLEASE consider volunteering to be a speaker next year or submitting your name for the planning committee.

We hope you’ll plan in advance and clear the calendar to invest in your future and gain a competitive advantage over others when we gather at the spectacular Hyatt from March 4-5 in 2014 as our careers Lift Off!

Carol McDonald, Fire Cause AnalysisConference Committee Member since 2000

One of the many creative things that the Combined Claims Conference Committee did was to come up with a Scholarship Program. We’ve been able to offer one and two day Scholarships to insurance professionals, this allows them to attend the conference for free. We’ve been able to draw insurance professionals who have never been able to attend the conference and have been able to increase attendance every year.John Ruiz, Claims Education PanelChairman, CCC Scholarship Committee
