Small Mammal Critical Care: How to Keep Them from Dying! (Antinoff): This master class will give an overview of small mammal critical care medicine and common techniques. Fluid therapy, pain management, IV/IO access, CPR, and endo-tracheal intubation techniques will be reviewed.

Reptile Handling, Exam and Clinical Techniques (Barten): This master class will provide an overview on reptile handling and restraint techniques and how to perform a physical examination in reptile species. Common diagnostic and treat-ment techniques will be discussed.

Avian Anesthesia “Ins and Outs” (Schroeder/Kennedy): This master class will re-view important anatomy and physiology as well as anesthetic and monitoring equip-ment. Common drugs used for anesthesia and anesthetic complications will be discussed. Case examples will be used to help design proper anesthesia protocols.

Radiographic Case Studies - Small Mammals (Hoey): The goal of this master class is to make the attendees more confident in interpreting small mammal radio-graphs. Clinical cases will be used to highlight common radiographic abnormalities and the normal radiographic anatomy of small mammals will be reviewed.

Ferrets 101: Ferret Husbandry, Techniques, & Common Diseases (Churgin): This master class will combine an interactive lecture with hands-on, live-animal handling to practice physical exam and handling. Husbandry, medicine, sedation, diagnostic techniques, and common medical problems will be reviewed and clinical cases discussed.

Poultry Medicine: Managing the Backyard Chicken Flock (Bell): Attendees of this master class will become familiar with a systematic approach to assessing flock health and will learn how to provide sound recommendations to poultry own-ers in regards to husbandry, nutrition, preventive health care and parasite control.

Master Classes

LabsSmall Mammal ER and Clinical Techniques (Antinoff) – limit 12Basic procedures such as handling and restraint, venipuncture and injection tech-niques will be practiced on live animals. Participants will practice intraosseous catheterization, endotracheal intubation in rabbits, and placement of urinary cath-eters in ferrets and rabbits, using carcasses.

Reptile Handling, PE and Clinical Techniques (Barten) – limit 16This lab will use live specimens to demonstrate handling and restraint, compre-hensive physical examination, and diagnostic sample collection and drug admin-istration. This lab will most benefit veterinarians and technicians, who are less experienced at treating reptiles.

Avian Anesthesia Made Easy! (Schroeder/ Kennedy) – limit 12This lab will utilize live animals to practice avian anesthesia. As a complement to the Avian Anesthesia master class, this lab will allow participants to practice concepts that were emphasized in the master class. Participants will practice intu-bation, anesthesia monitoring, and supportive care.
