Principal’s Report
The volume of trucks and harvest machinery using Molong Street has increased significantly this week. When trucks are hauling grain, the weight is such that it is more difficult to stop quickly for cars or pedestrians.
Parents and students are reminded of the need to use the pedestrian crossing and to check that it is safe to cross before doing so. It is safer for parents to walk their children across the road than call them across.
We have witnessed trucks and cars that do not always give way to pedestrians in the past year. Many drivers do not abide by the speed zone signs, particularly when the speed is reduced to 40km/h.
We ask all drivers to:
Slow down to 40km when is the school zone
Give way to pedestrians at the crossings
Avoid making U-Turns at the pedestrian crossing or in the bus zone
Avoid picking up students while waiting at the pedestrian crossing
Because we are concerned for the safety of our students, police have been contacted. An increased presence of highway patrol will occur around our school.
Notes for Absence or Request of Exemption
Parents and carers are reminded that all absences need to be explained sufficiently in writing or by contacting the office on 6895 2134 within seven days of the absence. “Family” or “family reason” are not an acceptable explanation of absence.
Where an absence is due to an exceptional family circumstance, please contact the office to request an exemption prior to the student’s absence.
Appropriate Footwear
All students are expected to wear black leather school shoes or joggers. Canvas shoes, regardless of style, do not provide adequate protection and are not to be worn to school.
High School Transition
Year 6 students will be involved in transition lessons at the high school this Wednesday. Students may wear their Year 6 shirts in place of their regular school shirt. They will also need to be wearing sturdy joggers or school shoes and have a hat to be able to go.
P&C Meeting
The next meeting of the P&C is at 7.00 pm on this Thursday, 7 November in the school library. All welcome to attend.

Sport and Recreation are holding the Central West Winter Sporting Spirit Volunteer Award to recognise the effort of volunteers in the sporting community. Volunteers are the lifeblood of grassroots sports and we invite you to nominate a worthy candidate. In 100 words or less tell us how your volunteer is a stand-out. Examples might be the extensive time they dedicate to the club, the positive attitude they bring to the sporting arena, being a positive role model for younger club members. Download nomination forms from the Sport and Recreation website http://www.dsr.nsw.gov.au/volunteeraward/index.asp or call 6362 6623. Nominations close Friday 8th November 2013.
