On Tuesday 11 November, students in Stage 4 went on an excursion to the Wiradjuri Cultural Centre as part of

their English unit on Indigenous Storytelling. At the WCC, students experienced a Wiradjuri storytelling session led

by Steve Taylor from Dinawan Connections, who was accompanied by Ernie Peterson, Ashlee-Nathan Coe, Braith

Sloane and Errol Packham dancing. It was a great experience for the students, who had the opportunity to join the

boys and dance as either kangaroos or emus during some of the songs. After the session, the students had time to

look around the art gallery, where one of the highlights was seeing a woven emu, which Hunni and Hayley Coe-

Johnstone helped their Nan Bev make. We would like to thank Steve for taking the time to run the session, and the

WCC for being so welcoming.


Our School - What is PBL


PBL @ Condo High

How does PBL work at Condobolin High School? Throughout the normal school day students are given tickets when they demonstrate positive behaviours around the school. These tickets are placed into a year box in the high shelter. A winner is then drawn from a year group box and each winner receives a $20 canteen voucher.

When is the prize draw?

Prize draws will take place every second Friday. Our first draw took place in Week 3 with follow up draws in Week 5, 7 and 9. At the end of the term all the tickets will be combined into a large barrel and 3 tickets will be drawn out. The first ticket will receive a $100 Why Leave Town gift card, second ticket will receive a $50 Why Leave Town gift card and the third ticket will receive a $25 gift card.

What does positive behaviour look like in our school?

At Condobolin High School students are encouraged to be

STRONGER, SMARTER and PROUDER. Students can show this in many ways, here are a few examples;

- being on time to school

- being on time to class

- following instructions

- trying their best

- being prepared to learn

I would like to give a final congratulations to Year 12 as they

have now all completed their exams with many of them

already starting apprenticeships, work or locking in University.

Although it has been a difficult year for them it is pleasing to

see that they have gotten over the final hurdle for school and

they are all moving on with their adult lives. Congratulations

Year 12 2020!

Even though Year 12 have finished, things have not really

slowed down this term. During Week 4 students completed

their yearly exams and have been finalising their final

assessments for the year.

There has been some relaxation of the COVID-19 restrictions in

the last two weeks, and as such a number of activities that

normally run at the end of the year. This means that we will

now be able to have a Year 6 into 7 transition program. It will not look like it has

in the past and it will be much shorter due to the time of year. Ms Kayla Bendall

will be taking up the role of Year Advisor for 2021 and we thank Ms Bendall for

taking on this role. More specific details of the transition will come over the next

couple of weeks.

As has been the case for the last few years we will be running End of Year

Activities Monday-Wednesday of Week 10. Students will be given the

opportunity to choose 2 activities that they are interested in to complete during

that week. All activities will be undertaken in a COVID safe manner. Students will

make their choices over the next couple of weeks and any notes/money will be

collected prior to Week 10. Please choose wisely!

End of year presentations have also been given the green light to go ahead.

Given the nature of the year it is going to be incredibly difficult to award many of

our major prizes for the year due to students being unable to undertake activities

that support them to meet the criteria. With that in mind we will be combining our Term 4 Merit Assembly and our

Presentation Night. This will be run on 8 December in the High Shelter and livestreamed like we have with a few

events in the last couple of months. Unfortunately we will not be able to invite parents in to see their children

receive awards due to the 4m space restrictions. We will invite the parents of the new Captains to present the

children with their badges. There are some traditions that COVID has not been able to torpedo!

Some of you may be aware that over the last few weeks there have been a number of Executive positions

advertised, in particular the Principal position. All things being equal hopefully all these positions will be filled and

ready to go for the start of 2021. As these positions are filled we will let the community know.

Our School - Library News


The library’s fiction collection continues to develop – there’s more manga, dyslexic books and our contemporary Indigenous collection has expanded. We have new items in hard copy, electronic and audio formats but my favourite new addition to our collection is a non-fiction item, Theodore Gray’s The elements – a visual exploration of every known atom in the universe. This stunning photographic display of the elements, and where they are used, is delightful to browse or read.

One of the aspects of reading that I really enjoy is sharing good reads with others – and having books recommended to me. So, when a student introduced me to Charlie Higson’s The enemy series, I decided to read the first book - even though I am not a fan of horror. Higson’s tale of a deadly disease that sweeps the planet infecting, and eventually killing, everyone over the age of 14 was fascinating and scary. To quote the Guardian newspaper the series is “clever… fast paced (and) inventive”. The series is available from the library in hard copy and on the Wheelers platform.

The teenagers in fighting to stay alive The enemy will tell you there is strength in numbers. Along with other schools in the central west, Condobolin High School is part of the Central West Wheelers Consortium. This cooperation between schools provides access to a wide variety of e-books and audio books for students and teachers. If you haven’t had a look at the range available, head to condobolin.wheelers.co on your computer, login in with your NSW Department of Education email address and password library1. If you are using a tablet or mobile phone, you will need to download the e-platform first.

Caro has been tidying up the archive materials in the library and has discovered a swag (plethora, multitude) of photos without any means of identifying the subjects and, importantly, the years in which these photos were taken. If there is anyone who could assist in identifying old Condobolin High School photos we would love to hear from you!

This semester, Stage 5 English students have been exploring different perspectives from the Asian continent

through their study of short films. We have viewed seven short films in total over the past five weeks. Some

students have been developing advertising for a fictitious film festival marketing these films. Well done!
