Transcript of Concourse 2 cover
You’ll probably have noticed by now that a month has been and
gone already, and those things that you said you’d do ‘after
freshers week’ still haven’t been done. However long you’ve got
left at Keele, get those things done. You won’t find any other
place where so much is on offer; try something new, do
something you’ve done for years, whatever. Just don’t get to the
end of your time here and look back wishing you’d got involved
more.
Last year, sport at Keele was given a massive boost from Sport
England so look out for casual taster sessions, leagues and
tournaments in all sorts of sports coming soon under the PLAY
sport initiative. The PLAY 6 a side football league has started
with 16 teams playing every Monday, if you missed out this
semester sign up early for next time, it’ll be bigger and better!
Make sure you keep an eye out for all the other events too;
hopefully there should be something new to try every week.
The Athletics Union is also going from strength to strength with
loads of you signing up, if you missed out and still want to join a
team it’s not too late. Just head to the AU office in the sports
centre and find more information about the clubs Keele has to
offer. The first lot of full BUCS fixtures have just been as I write
this with a mixed bag of results for the teams representing
Keele. Men’s Squash beat MMU 3-2, Golf drew 3-3 with
Manchester and Women’s Football came out 2nd best in a 12
goal game narrowly losing 7-5 to UCLAN. Come down and
support the teams on Wednesday afternoons and we can start to
see all the results going our way!
Getting involved in these co-curricular activities is exactly how
you’re going to stand out as a graduate. Join a sports team,
become a committee member, help organise and run a
tournament. Get involved and get the experience that is going to
give you the edge. It might even be fun.
