  • About Kent Youth Wind Orchestra The Kent Youth Choirs

Kent Youth Choir The Kent Youth Choir (KYC), founded in 1983, is Kent Music’s principal senior youth choir comprising talented and committed musicians between the ages of 16 and 21. The choir performs advanced choral music from a large variety of genres and periods. The singers meet at residential courses in the three main school holiday periods for the opportunity to study and rehearse music in a focused and creative environment. KYC has been directed by visiting conductors of international repute including Scott Stroman, Bob Chilcott and David Lawrence. The choir has performed in venues throughout Kent and at all major concert venues in London.

Kent Youth Singers The Kent Youth Singers (KYS), was formed in response to the great demand for places in the Kent Youth Choir. Membership of this lively and talented choir, aged 16 to 21 years, is highly sought after and members are selected by audition from across the county. With experience gained in this group, many members go on to audition successfully for membership of KYC. KYS meets, along with KYC, at residential courses in the three main school holiday periods - these courses provide an environment which allows creativity and in-depth study of selected repertoire and the opportunity to meet with like-minded musicians. The choir studies and performs music from a large variety of genres and periods and has been directed by conductors of international repute including Mark De-Lisser from the ACM Gospel Choir.

Benjamin Rous - conductor of Kent Youth Choir

Benjamin Rous studied composition, piano and conducting at the Royal College of Music at King’s College, London. He also studied Javanese Gamelan music and has performed with Alpha Beta Gamelan, the RCM Gamelan Project and with members of the South Bank Gamelan Players and Paris Cité de la Musique in concerts and festivals in France, Germany and the UK, including at Glastonbury.

As a composer his work has been varied, writing for various combinations of instruments and voices. As a conductor he is equally at home directing symphonies and oratorios in concert, musicals in the theatre or a string section on a pop record.
