We’re kicking off the 2015-16 season with stellar
entertainers! Members of the House of Steel band
have recorded and toured with Grammy Award
winning artists and now perform under their own
band name. The House of Steel is built around core
members, Mike and Teriney “T” Smith who are
originally from Nashville.
Teriney Smith is the lead female vocalist. She
toured with Grammy-winning artist Larry Gatlin
and recorded his “Larry Gatlin & The Texas Flyer
Band: LIVE” album as a featured and background
vocalist. She has three solo recordings as well as a
BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) release and
has performed in venues such as Farm Aid and Fort
Worth’s Bass Hall
with the Fort Worth
Symphony. She is a
world-class vocalist
with a dynamic per-
sonality to match.
Mike G. Smith on pedal steel guitar, keyboards and
lead male vocals, has three gold and two platinum
albums for his work with The Gatlin Brothers. He
has recorded 19 of their albums to date and has
also toured the world with The Judd’s, Charlie
Rich, Hank Williams, Jr., Jerry Reed and others. He
is a 13-time Top Ten Steel Guitarist in Guitar Player
Magazine (worldwide) and is the recipient of the
NARAS/Grammy “Super Pickers” Award. With the
various acts he toured with, Mike has appeared on
hundreds of television shows including “The To-
night Show,” “The Merv Griffin Show,” “Dick Clark
Salutes,” Bob Hope Specials, and many more.
One of Mike’s most memorable recording sessions
was a session produced by Barry Gibb (of The Bee
Gees) for the legendary artist Roy Orbison. It fea-
tured an all-star cast of musicians. The song they
recorded, “Indian Summer,” is featured on the re-
cently released Roy Orbison CD boxed set.

I’m OK
Here at RCW we want to make sure you are A-
OK! The “I’m Okay Club” is a program for guests
and residents who are living alone.
Once you sign up with the Activity Office, you
must call in daily before 10:00 am. This is just a
daily check-in by phone that allows us to make
sure you are OK. If you don’t call in by 10:00 am,
we will try and reach you. If we are unsuccessful,
we will come to your house and check on you.
Please stop by the Activity Office to sign up. We
look forward to seeing you.
Speed Limit
Please observe the 10-mph speed
limit inside the park.
AED Devices & 911 Phones
We have three Automated External Defibrillator
(AED) devices and four 911 Emergency phones.
Make it a point to learn their locations. There is
one of each in the Breezeway near the Office.
Stay tuned to “The Villager” for upcoming CPR
and AED classes. You could save a life!
Safety from Wildlife
The weather is cooling and this is a time when
rattlesnakes might seek the warmth of a cozy
asphalt street after sundown.
For maximum safety, carry a
flashlight when you are
walking at night, keep pets
on a leash, and remain alert
to an unlikely, but possible
encounter.
Safety First!
New to Tucson or Rincon Country West?
The RCW Ambassadors are a group of volun-
teers who would like to help you learn more
about our great community. The Ambassadors
welcome newcomers to RCW every Tuesday at
9:00 am in Classroom 1. Our first orientation will
be on Nov. 3rd. If you would like an orientation
prior to Nov. 3rd, visit the Activity Office.
We’ll help you get acquainted with RCW’s facili-
ties and activities. We can tell you where you
can find grocery stores, shopping malls, restau-
rants, a hospital or urgent care clinic, and sight-
seeing spots. We will try to answer any ques-
tions you may have. We look forward to seeing
you!

nouncement to 1/2 page or smaller.
For Club Leaders
Our Farmers’ Markets will be better than ever
this year, with more local artisans selling hand-
crafted jewelry, soaps, clothing, and yard art. In
addition to fresh produce, you can buy locally-
made salsas, soups, and baked goods. At the
Farmers’ Market, you can grab a snack, have
lunch, or take food home to enjoy later.

Support local vendors, enjoy the Arizona sun-
shine, and meet your neighbors at the RCW

We are a small group of women that sing familiar music in 4-part harmony. We work on 4 or 5 num-bers, so we have time to go over individual parts.
Give us a try! Your friends are waiting for you on Wednesdays from 1:00 - 3:00 pm in Classroom 1.

Classes are for beginners as well as for those who have been taking photos or video for years. Come to learn or to share your knowledge with us.
We have two groups that meet on Mondays. At-tend one or both groups:

Comfort Quilts The Comfort Quilt Group is up and running for the new season. We’ll meet every Thursday from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm in the Sewing and Craft Room (except on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve).
Our purpose is to brighten the lives of many Tuc-son and RCW residents facing health or life chal-lenges. The quilt tops are made by our many tal-ented quilters at our weekly work sessions where we build the backs, sandwich the quilts, and finally hand tie them.
The Comfort Quilt Group will be participating again this year in the Veteran’s Day Program on Wednesday evening, Nov. 11th. We have donat-ed 2 beautiful patriotic quilts to be given away to RCW veterans. If you are an RCW veteran, all you need to do to be eligible to win is fill out a ques-tionnaire in the Activity Office. A big thank you to all our veterans for their service.
If you know of anyone at RCW who is facing health issues, please let us know.

Library News
Welcome back, Snowbirds! It has been a delight-ful summer and a much-appreciated monsoon. We are looking forward to a fun 2015-16 season now that our winter friends are arriving. The summer library volunteers have done a great job. Our heartfelt thanks go out to them. If you meet one, give her a hug, or at least, a big smile.
We hope you will enjoy the resources offered by the RCW library, not just books but magazines, puzzles, newspapers, newspapers, and a peace-ful room for reading.
Same rules as last year - books are available on the honor system. Just take one and when you bring it back, please drop it in the “Return Books” bin just inside the door. Donations can also be put in that same place.
Please do not re-shelve books; our volunteers will be hurt if you do their job.
Jigsaw puzzles are available to be worked in the library, or you may take one to your home. News-papers are available for everyone to use, and we ask that you NOT take them from the room, and DO NOT work the puzzles or cut out the cou-pons. If you break one of these last rules, we will be forced to put a hex on your cat and it will nev-er eat bargain cat food again.
So do come in and have a look at all the new books that have come in this summer. We’re sure you will find something that intrigues you! If you have suggestions for improving our service, please contact our librarian, Sandy Blodgett.

Playcrafters
Mark your calendars for Dec. 4th and 5th so you don’t miss the plays being planned by Playcraft-ers and Reader’s Theater for your enjoyment.
Reader’s Theater, directed by Carroll Melnyk, will be presenting a Christmas melodrama entitled “Rollin’ in Dough in Mistletoe,” which will be sure to bring you lots of laughs.
Playcrafters will be presenting a delightful come-dy entitled “Soapy Smith’s Christmas Wish,” di-rected by Karen Kvool.
You will enjoy seeing your Playcrafters friends dressed in costumes dating back to the early 1900’s, and some will even resemble hobos gath-ered around a campfire in the slums of New York City.
Each play is approximately 1/2 hour long, with an intermission. Tickets are still only $5.00 and will be available in the Activity Office and at the door. See you there!

Activities N - Pl Nana’s Needles
An early “Welcome” to those of you who are in the park already! We will be eager to learn of your experiences during the time you have been away. We hope you have brought some new techniques to share. We will be meeting on Fri-day mornings, after Coffee, in Classroom 1. We now have a large cupboard giving us on-site stor-age for supplies, books, and finished goods.
Most of you will remember that we are now sup-plying Casa de los Niños with the goods we make or purchase for their efforts to serve in caring for the children who need them for a variety of rea-sons. It is worthy to note that Casa has needs beyond the blankets, etc., that we produce, and those needs go on all year round. I can suggest that you buy the extra toothpaste, toothbrush, socks, shampoo... whatever is on your list, and we’ll see that the extras go to Casa.
See you Friday!
