Dear Parents and Guardians, What a fantastic week in St Patrick’s! Weather was planned to perfection with a glorious day for our staff, students and families at our faction carnival. Congratulations to Miss Emma Ackland on her preparation and running of the carnival. It ran very smoothly and the students and staff had a fabulous day. A very special thank you to Mitch Davies for helping to set up with our staff in the morning – he is an absolute expert at putting our faction tents up! Congratulations to Gibney for their great win on the day. Prendiville and McLeod were also fantastic. Well done to McLeod for their win in the marching shield. I was so impressed with the sportsmanship displayed by our students and this year many of them had ‘good sports’ ribbons proudly displayed on their shirts. Next term we welcome Tara Punch to our staff. Tara will be taking Dance as part of the Arts component of the curriculum. Tara is an experienced dance teacher and we look forward to her supporting our students and staff with dance and our end of year concert. We will miss Ms. Bearcroft who has been seconded to St Bernard’s for 9 weeks, she will be in contact with us no doubt throughout the term. Our staff have taken up many of Deb’s responsibilities during the term with St Pats Facebook page and supporting the sacramental program. It has been a very busy term, our staff prayer today reflected upon travel. During the holidays, many people will be on the road. Mrs Pontillo shared a motorist prayer-asking God to watch over us as we travel and to protect the people in our car. Our St Patrick’s Family

We give thanks for our families in St Patrick’s and the wonderful work that our parents and guardians do to support our school. At times, families go through much hardship (often very quietly); please pray for Mrs Sugg and her family, her mum Stella passed away on the weekend and her funeral will be on Friday. Also, please keep Patrina Gayton in your prayers, Patrina’s father is in hospital and he is not doing so well. Many of our staff have families who are sick and need our constant prayers so that they can recover. Please keep all our families in your prayers, as we well know, the power and strength that prayer provides at different times in our lives

Eco Fair: Market Day: Saturday 16th September:

Assembly Feedback: The results of the Assembly Time survey are as follows:

13/16 Staff responded (81% respondents.) 62% Staff preferred 2:30pm Assembly 38% Staff preferred 9:00am Assembly 21/75 Families responded (28% respondents) 95% stated that they would always try to attend an assembly when they knew their children were

performing/receiving awards. 79% Families 9:00am Assembly 21% 2:30pm Assembly

The information gained from the survey has informed the school’s decision to continue to hold Assemblies on Friday afternoons 2:30pm. It is appreciated that it is not always easy for some parents to attend in the afternoon, however, it is heartening to know that most parents will do all they can to attend if their child is either performing and /or receiving an award. Thank you to the 21 families who responded and provided some excellent suggestions regarding the running of our school Assemblies. It is hoped that we can put some of the ideas into place for 2018.

God Bless Debra Bearcroft [email protected]

Learning: In Year 5, we have been discussing the qualities of responsible people in our religion unit and in preparation for leadership in Year 6. Some of the ideas the students have spoken about were being respectful to those around them and being organised and independent. We will be setting personal goals at the beginning of next term based on these qualities. Miss Anderton.

Engagement: Remarkable Readers is a celebration to acknowledge those students who are engaged in their home reading each school night. Well done to all the students who are attending. There has been a great improvement in all students' engagement and attendance in the Remarkable Readers program this term which in turn enhances their comprehension skills, their vocabulary knowledge and their Literacy Pro scores. Looking forward to a great day! Mrs Holmes.

Accountability – in our spelling rotations, we have introduced a table where we have the ability to choose which activities we complete over three weeks, but they must all be different. The Year 4 students are accountable for learning their spelling words through Soundwaves, writing the words in sentences, completing homework and by picking the activities in a way in which appeals to them, in a way they believe they will learn best. Miss Anderson Discipleship: Discipleship is the way that we live out the teachings of Jesus. It is how we show love to God and one another. We can do this through our thoughts, words and actions- living the way Jesus taught us to. A great example of discipleship I saw this week was through the sportsmanship during the Athletics Carnival. The children all supporting and encouraging each other during their events- it was so wonderful to see them acting in such a Christian way. Miss Lilleyman

The First Shall Be Last

Jesus said, “The Kingdom of heaven is like this. A farmer goes out at dawn and hires workers. He promises them one silver coin each for the day’s work. Later he sees some more men and he hires them, and more again at lunchtime. At the end of the day, he pays each worker one silver coin. Those who worked all day were angry, but the farmer said, ‘Are you jealous because I am generous? I paid you what I promised.’ “Jesus concluded, “The last will be first and the first will be last.” God’s Generosity. The story is not about fair wages; it’s about the Kingdom of heaven. The message is this: Some will hear God’s call as children, young adults, or in old age. No matter when a person hears the call, if they respond, their reward is the same; eternal life in heaven.

Father in Heaven, you love all your children equally. Help us not to be

jealous of one another. Amen.
