5 main areas for the Global Strategy update: New, emerging priorities and evidenceEvery Woman Every Child Every Setting

1. Every Woman Every Child – Adolescents are the SDG generation– 1.2 billion, 88% in LMIC; 15-19 year girls maternal mortality 2nd cause of death (suicide first cause)

– A 10 year old in 2016 25 in 2030

2. Every Setting – Humanitarian to Sustainable Development Contiguum– 51 fragile states: 60% maternal, 53% under-five and 45% newborn mortality; 40% under 15 years

3. Health Sector – Survive and Thrive across the SRMNCAH continuum – Early Childhood Development: 200 million children (1 in 4) fail to reach full potential

– Sexual and reproductive health: 60% new HIV 15-24 years; HPV, STIs, focus on adolescents

– Reproductive cancers: cervical - 528,000 new cases, 270,000 deaths annually, 85% in LMIC

– Integration: Nutrition - 45% U5MR, NCDs & CDs – 30% MMR, CDs – 51.8% U5MR

4. Health-influencing Sectors – Shared Health and Sustainable Development Goals– Around 50% contribution to mortality reduction: Education; Women’s Political and Economic Participation;

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene; Air pollution; Infrastructure; Technologies; Economy

– Gender-based Violence affects 1 in 3 women and girls aged 15-49

3. National Leadership and Partnerships – Principles to Practice– Political vision and commitment, Multistakeholder engagement, Enabling environment and Evidence

– Mechanisms: Unified, costed national plans review; South-South cooperation; Financing e.g Global Financing Facility; Innovation Marketplace for Public and Private Sector, Human Rights Commission
