DESIGN A POSTCARD WHICH YOU SENT FROM THE FUTURE, DEPICTING YOUR ACHIEVEMENT AT THAT TIME

from the fontys academy of creative industries we received an assignment to design a postcard which could be sent from the future towards today. it had to show your achievemetns or goal from that time. i chose to depict the Cinderella castle in disneyworld as an air castle.

the cinderella castle is the ultimate goal for me. for one, it shows my absolute favourite place in the world: disneyworld. i love the fact there is a land where there are no worries and where everybody is happy. all we see is entertainment and fun. that is a world i would want to live in. besides the actual location of the castle, i chose to put the castle up in the air. that show my ability to build worlds in my head. i often just sit around and think about how things could be different in the world. most of the time i come back to disneyworld because i just want the world to have more fun and be more light. focus on other things than material posses-

sions and successes counted with currency. i also believe i can be a great help to anyone who wants to build their own castle, in the air or on land. i love to share my views and help the ones that seek my guidance. i love to talk about could-be’s and how we could get there. the phrase ‘if you can dream it, you must do it’ refers to the ability of ours to think up the most beautiful castles in our minds, but most of us don’t really do something with it. there are few that actually act on their dreams. the internet is full with articles about how we can ful-fill our dreams, only because so few of us actually do. the element is also a part of this assignment. everybody

has their own castle. mine may look like the cinderella castle of disneyworld, but others may find their dreams in a wooden shed in the forest. everyone has there own element to find and work on. when we all do that, we will create a world where everyone is valued and connected.

that is a world i would like to live in.

INSPIRATION

Citiesman-made nature. a stroll in the busy world can be very intimidating. it shows us our ability to outweigh nature in grandure. we must protect the balance between cities and nature

naturebeauty created for everyone. we are allowed to marvel at its wonders and sometimes even live in it. we push it back with concrete. we must protect the balance between nature and cities

i think nature is the place where we all should go regular-

ly to contemplate. maybe even meditate. as we all know, nature is ful-

ly build from natural elements. this is where my inspiration for the name came

from. i am also very at easy in nature. it is where i am in my element.

may 12, 1990. that is the day of my birth. i was born and raised in helmond, where i stll live with my parents. i have had an excellent childhood. in fact, i strongly believe i am still in it. i try to be as childlike as i can possibly be. not to be confused with childish, as that is a very selfish attitude. childlike means to look at the world with amazement and wonder. i also think that joy and love are the two most important aspects in the world. it does not matter what proffesion we pick, as long as we enjoy doing it, it is the right choice. with that in mind, i chose to end my studies Facility management in the final year because i did not enjoy doing it. i also believe that society must try and value the more

basic, or elemental, aspects of life. joy, love and happiness over money, possessions and gain. i strongly believe that when we do something we love, our love for it seeps in all other aspects of our lives. we even ‘infect’ others with our enthusiasm and joy so we make an actual difference in this world. that is why i created Element. it is the combination of finding the thing we love doing and can do well so we can truly shine by doing and the view that we must value more elemental aspects of life. my love for nature is also represented (the elements). Let’s go back to the more basic elements of life, so we can be in our element - marc scheepers

Abouve you can see how the element logo was created. it was clear from the start the logo had to be very basic. created from basic forms, or elements. on the top left there is the great circle, which represents the entire picture, or the whole we are all a part of. the three smaller circles represent the individuality of us all. we are all so very differ-

ent, but still belong in the great whole. the triangle represents the connecting factors between each of us. in the center of that is the element. it is the element that connects us because it gives us joy and pleasure, which carries over to everyone around us.

in fact, it took a very long time to get to this logo. as you know this book is part of an assignment to create a concept for ourselves. as i created my first book, i came to the concept: Marcand, or Marc&. when you say the words out loud we get to an dutch equivalent of remarkable, or different. as that logo was kind of true, it was not really who i was. i had to get deeper into the concept and find what it was that really made me, me.

and so element came to be. it was the thing that really set me apart. as i was following a class in school, we focused on the element. that one thing that made us happy and what we are good at. that is what we are all after. but for me it hit me on an even deeper level. suddenly i found what i must do, as i was trying to find my own element: helping other to get to theirs. after all, i was the one who was preaching change!

I strongly believe we can change the world with the element. if we all make it our goal to find ours, we overload the world with our own pleasure and joy and insprire others to do the same. when we achieve this, we will have created the best world we possibly can.TO LISTEN TO THE HEART IS CONNECTING TO THE DEEPEST IN YOURSELF - ECKART TOLLE

we live in a material world. whichi is not how it is supposed to be. we take pride in our possesions and our bank accounts. we like to talk about those and show it to the world. we like to let them know we are succesful at life. i pity those people. they fail to see that true success comes from happiness and joy. when we have fun doing certain things, we are automatically succesfull. that doesn’t have to mean we immediately have a lot of money or a big house. i do believe however, that when we show the world

our element, the thing we are good at and love doing, we attract success into our lives. that can be in the form of money, but that is not always the case. i you live a happy life, why can’t you call that success? just find the thing you love, and you infect others with your enthusiasm and joy. when more and more people do this, we fill the world with happy and joyfull people. who are all good at different things. we will have created a varied world with many different people and talents, but who are all very happy with their lives.

i n s p i r i n gby being in my element i inspire others to find their own. they see my joy and happiness and want that for themselves. i try to help them on their journey to their element. this book is part of that. i hope i can inspire you to look at your own dreams and find one that is truly your element.

fun and joynothing is more important than fun and joy. they lead to happiness, which is what we all want to be. i firm-ly believe everything that brings me joy or is fun to do is not a waste of time. that can be anything, from playing a game to exploring a new part of the forest.is it fun? than it is what you should be doing right now.

l i s t e nin order to help people finding their element, lis-tening is a very important part of that. we often hear people talk about that one car or a big house, when you ask them about their dreams or their future plans. i want to know if that is the real goal, or is there something else beneath that car or house? do they think it makes them happy? how can they be truly happy?

element has taken its place in the world. people are seeing they are not exporing their full potential. they see they go to school so they can find a proper education, after which they can have a job they like so they can earn just enough to provide for themselves. they get mar-ried, pay taxes, watch the news and obey the law. they think they are free. then they come across element. they finally see that there is more to the world than work and fitting in. they try out the element way of life. they slowly start wokring on their dreams and goals. they are finding the thing they love doing the most. they get good at it. people around them what is different about them. they just tell them that they have finally started to follow their dreams. their pursuit has changed to happiness and fun, and work is just a thing on the side. they get so much more out of their lives now, and others start to notice. they want to live their lives differntly as well. and so they go

lokking for the element. their element. which is totally different than that of their friend who has started element earlier. but they also get very good at their element. they can even start their own business, so they can make money from the thing they really love doing. and now they are really having fun. he thinks life just got way easier and more fun. everything is so much lighter now. he is not as attached to his be-longings as he was before he started element. because he no longer takes happiness from his possessions. he creates his own. with his own element. he inspires others to do the same. that way he creates a spread like an oil spill. more and more people start to live differently. af-ter a while, everyone is living this new way. the society we live in change, along with its values.

we value happiness and joy, so we do everything we can to create it. wouldn’t that be fun?

to start the element, you must ask yourself the following questions:who am i? what do i want?when am i completely in my element?what does my heart want me to do?what is my purpose in life?who are my heroes? what do i admire most in them?what are my unique talents or skills?how can i use my talents or skills for the greater good?dare to follow the route of your heart and soul, even if it looks weird. remember your purpose will be revealed when you do what you were born to do.

i have chosen this font type because it represents pureness and basic letters. it is a no nonsense font face. it also looks like it is written, which i like. because element is something we need to do ourselves, the font must show that as well. besides Moon Flower, if have used umbilical noose. it is a strange font type which when put in red, it may look scary and dangerous. however, when it is used with basic black and white, the font gets a different feel. it looks like it is painted. it is heavier than moon flower and is used as headers and for some quotes. besides the basic font types, i deliberatly chose the book to be as much black and white as i can. i think those are

the most basic colors, which go well with the pure and basic values of element. it gives it an easy look, but still looks like it has something to say. it does have weight, while still maintaining a sleek look.for the pictures i have used many landscape photos of scandinavia. this country has the most beautiful nature, in my opinion. many people here live very basic lives, which also fit in really well with element. also, norway has a lot of elements of nature. water, snow, mountains, for-ests and much more. it helped me look for beautiful pic-tures taht could be in this book.
