Competition Information WorldSkills UK Visual Merchandising – Passive 2016 About the Competition This WorldSkills UK competition is managed by London College of Fashion in collaboration with the British Display Council. This stage of the competition is Passive. Successful competitors will be invited to compete at a live heat, followed by the UK Final. For further information please visit the skill page on the Find a Future website. All competitors must register for the competition on the WorldSkills UK website between 1 st March and 7 th April 2016. The deadline for submitting work to the passive stage is Friday 29 th April. Successful candidates will be announced by Monday 16 th May by email, and will be invited to take part in a live heat at London College of Fashion on Monday 20 th June. On recommendation of application, each student needs to meet the following criteria: You are currently studying on a visual merchandising unit or course. You are living in the UK or Northern Ireland. All participants must be over the age of 16. If under 18, participants must be accompanied by a tutor. Competition Information WorldSkills UK Visual Merchandising – Passive 2016

About the Competition

This WorldSkills UK competition is managed by London College of Fashion in collaboration with the British Display Council.

This stage of the competition is Passive. Successful competitors will be invited to compete at a live heat, followed by the UK Final. For further information please visit the skill page on the Find a Future website.

All competitors must register for the competition on the WorldSkills UK website between 1st March and 7th

April 2016.

The deadline for submitting work to the passive stage is Friday 29th April.

Successful candidates will be announced by Monday 16th May by email, and will be invited to take part in a live heat at London College of Fashion on Monday 20th June.

Passive Task Information

Title Theme: Fine Lines

Product: Top Shop SS16 Unique Outfits See next page. (the trend is inspired by Stella McCartney, Dior, D&G & Prada SS16)

Visual Merchandising candidates will be expected to produce 1-2 x fashion mood boards and 1 x window visual (hand drawn or CAD) applied to the given theme. You should also produce a short written description of your window proposal (under 300 words).

The following should be key considerations for the Fashion Mood Boards:

Colour palettes Inspirational Images Props (as shown on next page, you do not need to use everything, but at least one item) Materials (as shown on next page, you do not need to use everything, but at least one item) Mannequin outfits (feature 2 mannequins with suggested Top Shop outfits) Graphics (text, signage, promotion, illustration)

Submission

- All candidates should submit their designs via Flickr. Full instructions of how to create a Flickr account are accessible on the website https://www.flickr.com/

- Ensure that your Flickr account is clearly labelled with your name, and please the URL link to your account once your images have been uploaded, sending this to Edwards Stammers ([email protected]) by no later than Friday 29th April.

- Please title each image on Flicker with ‘WSVM’ and your Name

- Please note that any submissions received without a completed registration being made online via the WorldSkills UK website will not be eligible for marking.

Core competencies

Competitors taking part in this competition should be able to

- Research: The ability to research trends, target customer and themes: to be applied to a window concept.

- Design: The ability to design a window concept through sketches and/or computer images- Designing mood boards: Innovative thinking and design concept development.- Design and make of simple propping and graphics - Communication: The ability to communicate you- ideas both verbally and visually- Problem solving: The ability to work to a brief set and think on your feet- Organisation: The ability to work under pressure, manage your time and processes.- Work in a safe and tidy way- Prepare product: clean and iron, for example- Handle product and props to install in a window display - Ability to handle basic tools: such as a staple gun and drill.

Marking and Assessment

Competitors will be assessed on:

- Interpretation of the brief- Communication- Innovation and Creativity- Implementation

Each competition module will be assessed and marked independently of any other competition activity.

For all judgement criteria, the following marking scale will be used:

0 – Does not meet standard1 – Meets minimum standard2 – Meets standard3 – Exceeds Standard

Once marks have been awarded by each of the judges, they will be averaged to obtain the final mark.

A panel of judges has been selected from a range of industry, college and training provider representatives. The judges’ decisions will be moderated and quality assured by WorldSkills UK before being confirmed.

NB: Competitors who achieve the highest marks across all heats will be invited to compete at the UKFinal. There is no automatic entrance to the UK Final for heat winners. London College of Fashion will inform finalists following moderation of marks.

Please ensure that you are familiar with these documents ahead of any competition activity.

If a competitor has a complaint on the day it is advised that this be discussed with the competition organising partner, lead judge or WorldSkills UK representative. If this is not possible the following grievance procedure must be used.
