Competition InformationThis project is a design competition; following these instructions and using the drawing packet as a guide you will design an

entry and submit it for consideration by Back Porch Studio, Oil and Cotton and Bike Friendly Oak Cliff. Feel free to submit

more than one entry. The winning design will then be built at a work shop and the design and building instructions will be

    made available online.

You will have until Saturday December 1st to complete and submit your design entry. The construction part of the project

will occur at a later date to be announced in early 2013.

Bike Friendly Oak Cliff is an organization focused on creating a more bike friendly community. Aside from organizing family-friendly bike events and activities, one of their goals is to bring bike infrastructure to the community. This design

competition is one of the steps taken toward that goal.

The purpose of making this design available is to promote a bike-able community by making the racks easily accessible to

    small businesses.

    Requirements

The design requirements for the project simply consist of designing an easy-to-build bike rack. It can be as simple as takinga common bike rack design and proposing an easy way to build it or it can be a design that involves more than what is asked

for in the design criteria, for example incorporating a bike repair station into the rack, or it may include helmet storage.

InstructionsPlease feel free to use the accompanying sheets to submit your final design. The pages are intended to standardize the

submissions and ensure all needed information about the design is collected. Alternatively, you are allowed to submit your design

using other drawing types (like 3D renderings or scale models) but please be sure to submit at least one side and one top view so

that we can fairly compare it with the other design entries.

    P1 TOP VIEW

Page 1 is for you to draw the top/plan view of your design. This view will allow you to show how many bikes your rack

    can store.

    P2 SIDE VIEW

On Page 2 you can draw a side view.

    P3 FRONT VIEW

Page 3 is for a front view of your rack.

    P4 and P5 EXAMPLES

Pages 4 and 5 give you an example of what your drawings might look like. The example used is a typical tube bike rack

and it is shown in the Top, Front and Side views.

The additional sheets are drawings of different types of bikes that you can use. You can trace them or just use them as a guide.

    T W n you can

think about the different types of bikes out there and try to design a rack that is flexible enough to accommodate various bike

    designs.

    Additional things to think about

There are numerous types of bike locks; there are chains of various lengths and there are U-locks. It is less than ideal when the only way you can tie your bike means the frame has to rest on the rack and it scratches the

    paint.

Sometimes people want to not just tie the bike to the rack by the frame but both wheels as well because their bikewheels are of the quick release type.
