Regular comparatives

ADJECTIVES COMPARATIVES

1. With one-syllable adjectives add -er

2. With two-syllable adjectives ending in -y, omit -y and add -ier

3. With one-syllable adjectives which end in one vowel + one consonant,

Comparatives to the same degree

and to a lower degree1. We use as … as to say two things, people or situations are similar.

Example: “Teen Mum” is as bad as “Il Testimone”

1. Not as … as and less … than have similar meaning.

Example: Newspaper aren’t as up-to-the-minute as the Net

3. Not as … as and less … than are the opposite of more …. than.

Example: Summer holidays are more beautiful than winter ones
