INTRODUCTION
Emotional intelligence (EI) refers to theability to perceive, control, and evaluateemotions. Some researchers suggest thatemotional intelligence can be learned andstrengthened, while other claim it is aninborn characteristic.Recent investigations in the field of
personality indicate that emotional maturityand social skills, along with intelligence,bring adjustment and success in ones life.

Emotional intelligence has been found areliable predictor of academicachievement than general intelligence. Alarge amount of research work done in thelast century concluded that the higher theintelligence the better the academicperformance. These are emotions, which
help us to make important decisions of ourlife. Emotions facilitate our attitude andbehavior towards the attainment of ourgoals.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Population and Sampling
The population of the study consisted of all
the students of Master degree level of The
Islamia University of Bahawalpur. 50
students each from all the six department
of faculty of education were considered
the sample of the study.

Research Tool Development and
Data Collection
The study was descriptive in nature,
therefore, survey approach was
considered appropriate to collect the data.
For the purpose,Wong &Law emotionalintelligence scale (WLIS) was used after
some amendments according to culture
and environment, the scale was pilottested and the reliability of the scale was
0.808 (Cronbachs Alpha).

DATA ANALYSIS
To analyze the data, students responseswere converted into numerical scale.SPSS XII was used to analyze the data.Mean scores was calculated and thenindependent t -test and ANOVA was runin order to find the significant differencebetween the mean scores of students onemotional intelligence scale on theselected variables of all the departmentsof the faculty of education, the Islamiauniversity of Bahawalpur.

FINDINGS
There is no significant difference on all the
dimensions of emotional intelligence scale
age wise. Age wise all the students are
same.
Male students have significantly higher
emotional intelligence than their female
counter parts.

There is no significant difference on all thedimensions of emotional intelligence scale otherthan relationship management qualification wise.So it is decided to run POST HOC multiplecomparison test on the dimension of relationshipmanagement.
Post Hoc analysis
Students, who have B A qualification, they havesignificantly higher emotional intelligence amongthe group.

CONCLUSIONS
No doubt age does matter in emotionalcharacteristics and the self awareness of theemotional capabilities but study shows that allthe students are almost same in their ability tomanage their emotional behavior.
Male university students seem stronger in theiremotional characteristics
B. A students have emotional intelligencegreater than other students having B.Sc and M.A.
GC University Faisalabad and University ofEducation Faisalabad are far better than IslamiaUniversity Bahawalpur on different dimensionsof emotional intelligence scale.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Counseling centers can play an importantrole to guide the students at universitylevel
Teachers need to adopt proper strategiesto handle the situations that will work asan example for the students.
Female students should be indulged in thesituations where they polish theiremotional abilities. i.e. different programsat department and institution level.

It seems that as the student gets maturityhis emotional intelligence gets decrease;
its a matter of concern for the universities.
Islamia University Bahawalpur needs to
pay attention towards strategies to
enhance students emotional intelligencewith the cooperation of teachers.
