Theme of Love

Similarities

• Personal choice pops up as a huge component of all the action in Twilight. The defining aspect of the Cullen's – the "good" vampires – is that they've chosen to suppress their natural desire for human blood and only feed on animals. And driving the main plot, both Edward and Bella know what the safe action is for each of them – to stay away from each other – but they both struggle with how that route conflicts with their desires. Bella chooses to pursue Edward even though it's a dangerous. Edward chooses to engage in a relationship with Bella even though his instincts tell him that she's his prey. But the biggest choice hanging over the whole novel is: will Bella choose to become a vampire, and will Edward allow that?

• It's the oldest story ever told – the forces of good against evil! Light vs. darkness! The heroes vs. villains! Goodies vs. baddies! Friends against foes!

• Twilight is simple and straightforward, without any major twists.

• Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is complicated with dozens of plot twists and shocking surprises.

Writing style & structure

• Twilight is in 1st Person so that in Twilight the reader knows more about Bella’s feelings and thoughts, but in the former you get a broader spectrum on what’s happening outside of Harry’s perspective and the feelings of other characters.

• Harry Potter is written in 3rd Person

Narrative technique

• Twilight concentrates on the characters’ actions and emotions with characterization as the key literary element.

• meanwhile Harry Potter zeroes in on the events and characters with the plot as the key element

• Another difference is that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows centers on Harry and his friends’ struggles with adolescence and the re-rising of powerful, dark wizards.

• Twilight is about Bella and Edward’s relationship, their feelings for each other, and the complications caused by Edward’s thirst for her blood and conflicting desire to protect her. Lastly,
