The importance of planning the joint assembly, preparation of all components, procedures, tooling and ensuring application of the correct methodology is essential. The principle of a bolted joint is based on the induced bolt load delivering sufficient joint compression and gasket seating stress to withstand maximum service pressure and forces This is when the bolting is under tensile load. This load can be applied by various different methods but there are certain constants that must always be in place to ensure a leak free joint.

Preparation – The sealing faces must be clean and free from serious damage. The bolting must be prepared correctly (lubrication if torqueing, thread protrusion if bolt tensioning).

Equipment – Should be fit for purpose and have valid calibration certification.

Personnel – All personnel engaged in the tightening of bolted connections should be trained in the equipment being used and have the appropriate qualifications.

INTELLIGENT PIGGING

A pig is a device that is inserted into a pipeline generally for the purpose of cleaning the line, gauging the bore, separation of products or removing product from a pipeline. There are a number of types of pig but they usually fall into one of two categories, utility cleaning pig and intelligent pigs.All are called pigs or tools i.e. utility cleaning tool, intelligent inspection tool or inline inspectionVehicle.


CHEMICAL CLEANING( PIPE, MECHANICAL SYSTEMS, BOILER)Pre-operational chemical cleaning is performed to remove any foreign material remaining from the construction activities either on the pipe or system fabrication. Major considerations in the pre-operational phase include mill scale, corrosion products, weld scale, oil, grease, sand, dirt, temporary protective coatings, and other construction debris.Post-operational cleaning is performed for a number of reasons, including reduced heat transfer, reduced flow, safety (e.g., H2S, pyrophoric iron, LELs, ammonia, etc.), reduced surface area (e.g., catalyst), access to full inspection, and more. The type and frequency of post-operational cleaning varies with system design, operating requirements, and history of operation and fluid or water treatment.

To choose a proper chemical cleaning method, several factors should be considered, including:

NITROGEN PURGING, DRYINGNitrogen purging is an industry standard technique for the replacement of a hazardous or undesirable atmosphere with inert dry atmosphere. During the commissioning of a process plant, the replacement of air by purging with nitrogen is familiarly known as oxygen freeing or starts up purging. During a turnaround, the replacement of a hydrocarbon atmosphere with nitrogen is familiarly known as degassing or shutdown purging.

Gas-charged accumulators are ubiquitous on modem hydraulic systems. They carry out numerous functions, which include energy storage and reserve, leakage and thermal compensation, shock absorption and energy recovery.
