Your needs. Our know-how.

Macro’s commitment is for the full life of the

machinery we supply. Our equipment comes with the

full support of our technical service and R&D teams,

which means our customers get more than just

machinery from us. Our polymer experts can provide

advice on the latest developments in processing

including new potential materials and film structures

to achieve the competitive edge on new market

opportunities.

With more than 34 years of experience in the plastic film and sheet extrusion industry, Macro has developed a deep technical understanding of the needs of today’s film processor. Trends that have been observed over our history have evolved into common requirements; down-gauging to save on material costs, automation to improve plant safety, tighter quality controls, improved gauge control, and more output.

Over the next 34 years, Macro expanded from a

component supplier to complete extrusion systems

and became an industry leader in high barrier film

processing technology.

Macro has earned a global reputation as an

advanced technology equipment supplier through

the company’s ability to produce innovative solutions

to complex processing requirements. Through our

commitment to innovation, we continue to pioneer

new technologies. The focus has always been

innovation; providing innovative solutions to help our

customers achieve a processing advantage, or create

new, unique products.

Macro’s purpose is to become the outright leader

in delivering value to our customers by providing

leading products that embrace technology and

innovation, thereby delivering the best return on

invested capital.

Who is Macro

Our vision is to become a model of business success

based on our values:

• Passion for excellence in both business and

innovation

• Delivering on bold goals through collaboration

• Uncompromising commitment to integrity and

honesty

• Maintaining a global perspective

These values govern the manner in which we operate

all aspects of our business and guide us in our

objective to deliver value to our customers.

In 1978, Macro was founded just outside Toronto, Canada by Mirek Planeta, a chemical engineer with a flair for solving polymer processing issues through innovative thinking. The initial focus of the company was improving air ring design, which lead to the invention of the dual lip air ring.

5

1978 Macro Engineering & Technology Inc. is founded by Mirek Planeta and rapidly earns a reputation

for innovation and quality.

One of two companies to pioneer the development of the dual lip air ring.

1984 Pioneered the development of the secondary (stacked) air ring system to increase blown film

output and improve film clarity.

1992 Built the first commercial PVdC biaxially oriented film line for use in food packaging industry.

1994 Refined the D10 air ring to make it the most operator-friendly air ring on the market

Built the first commercial extrusion line to produce PVB sheet for use in the automotive glass

and construction glass industries.

1996 Developed the first PVdC extrusion coating line to produce barrier coated PVC sheet blister

packaging for the pharmaceutical industry.

1997 Designed and produced the world’s first commercial PVdC coextrusion blown film line.

Developed the MacroPack stackable coextrusion die for the extrusion of highly degradable

polymers in combination with high melt temperature polymers.

1998 Built the first 7-layer cast film line with PVdC encapsulation.

2000 Built the world’s largest 9-layer blown film coextrusion line for barrier film production

Developed a patented technology for encapsulation in a blown film coextrusion die, which

allows processing of heat sensitive polymers like PVdC in commercial dies.

A History of Innovation

6

2001 Built the first commercial coextrusion line for biaxially oriented barrier film with PVdC for shrink

bags used in the food packaging industry.

2008 Designed a hybrid lab line with both blown film coextrusion and cast film coextrusion

capabilities.

2010 After growing the business into a global leader of film and sheet extrusion machinery solutions,

Mirek Planeta sells his shares of Macro. DXS International acquires the company. Mirek Planeta

stays on as President.

2011 Developed a dual purpose cast extrusion system that is capable of switching between high

barrier film production and CPP production and can also be adapted to extrusion coating,

lamination, or embossing.

Macro expanded its operation with a European branch to serve as the hub of sales and service

to the European plastics community.

2012 Developed blown film coextrusion

technology to produce foam webs

suitable for food applications.

Refined blown film microlayer

technology (initially

patented in 2008)

for use in

commercial

extrusion

applications.

1984 1992 2000

Macro’s development in barrier film extrusion

technologies for the food packaging industry

makes up a large part of what Macro does.

No development was as important as our

work with PVdC, which is a difficult polymer

to process and requires very precise

technology.

Macro mastered this technology in the 1990s

and has become globally known as the

leader in PVdC extrusion.

Through our extensive research work

with PVdC we’ve acquired the know-how

to process any barrier material and have

developed refined technologies to do so.

We are the only extrusion system supplier

that can offer a system that can extrude any

barrier material the customer needs.

Food Packaging

Growing Market with Challenges

As flexible polymer packaging continues to gain

market share from paper, metal and glass packaging

types, the need for new plastic structures and

added production continues to grow. Along with

this growth come new challenges as food packaging

industry standards are becoming increasingly more

demanding. The requirement to protect the product

from microbial degradation, physical damage, and

chemical changes, combined with the need to offer

attractive shelf appeal, presents a challenging

combination to the processor. Our experience allows

us to sift through these challenges and provide the

appropriate solution to our customers, based on their

specific needs and objectives. We offer customers

what they need to be successful – optimized line

design, process development, and extrusion know-

how. Our turn-key systems provide the processing

solution from resin to wound roll and our after sales

support is there for any questions or issues once the

line is operational.

Machinery Options for Flexible Barrier Film

Production

Multilayer film structures allow flexibility to create

and fine-tune packaging film designs; printable and

sealing materials on the outside with barrier and

strengthening materials inside. Our team of dedicated

polymer professionals provides guidance to ensure

our customers are supplied with the right system to

match their needs. Macro provides a wide range of

food packaging film extrusion technologies, each with

its own advantages:

• Blown film coex lines up to 11-layers

(PA/EVOH/PVdC)

• Cast film coex lines up to 11-layers

(PA/EVOH/PVdC)

• Multi-bubble biax coex film lines up to

11-layers (PA/EVOH/PVdC)

• Extrusion coating lines up to 11-layers (PVdC)

Versatile, Reliable Machinery

Macro’s machinery is manufactured to operate well

beyond the age when the capital invested is returned.

As such we design our machinery with future needs

in mind – Macro offers extrusion systems with

versatility. Our systems are designed to allow the

flexibility to make product adjustments, or even

process completely new products to match changing

market needs.

Growing Market Opportunities

With aging populations in North America and

Europe, growing middle class populations that are

investing more focus on healthcare, and ever-tighter

regulations in place, the medical market for polymer

films and sheet is seeing significant short and long

term growth opportunities. Quality is of critical

importance to be successful in this market. Macro

has the technical know-how to provide the extrusion

solutions that meet the rigid demands of the medical

market with consistent, repeatable results. We supply

our customers with the machinery and technology

they need to succeed – we optimize our extrusion

system configuration to ensure product quality,

reduce downtime and maximize overall efficiency.

Medical

Efficient Production Solutions

Due to the nature of the contents of medical

packaging, the materials used tend to be expensive

and make up a significant portion of the operating

cost of a production line. There are significant savings

to the processor who can reduce resin use during

production. Macro’s team of design and process

professionals uncovers ways to reduce these costs

through down-gauging and improving the process to

reduce scrap generation. We offer turn-key solutions

that are fully integrated to get our customers

extrusion system up to production faster. Our team of

dedicated polymer processing professionals provides

guidance to ensure our customers are supplied

with the right system to match their needs. Macro

provides a wide range of extrusion technologies to

process virtually any polymer:

• Blown film coex lines up to 11-layers

• Cast film coex lines up to 11-layers

• Cast sheet lines up to 11-layers

• Multi-bubble biax coex lines up to 11-layers

• Extrusion coating lines up to 11-layers
