COMPANYMAGAZINECompany magazine is a monthly fashion, celebrity and lifestyle magazine published in the United Kingdom. It sells itself to a female target audience with its Fashion articles and interviews with female artists that are also role models to the potential female customers. In this analysis I shall
cover the graphics seen
on the front cover of
this issue. What makes
it sell and why the
graphics have been
used in they way they
have been.
THEMASTHEADCompany magazine is a monthly fashion, celebrity and lifestyle magazine published in the United Kingdom. It sells itself to a female target audience with its Fashion articles and interviews with female artists that are also role models to the potential female customers.
THECOVERSTAR
Rihanna is no doubt the most
popular R’n’B Artist is the
music Industry today. She has
very feminine characteristics,
and her music videos and
publicity pictures all show of
her feminine characteristics.
This feminine look is used
often on Company Magazine
to make the magazine look
feminine itself.
With recent event of
domestic abuse making
her a modern paparazzi
feast. Females now look up
to her as a strong role
model, to follow in times of
need. This characteristic
she has been given will sell
this magazine to females
who admire her.
Rihanna also has a very peachy face, making her
seem much more appealing the they, and
much more friendly. This elegance is used on female
celebrities only on magazines that are
marketed to a female consumer market.
THE
COVERLINES
Fashion article,
designed and
can only be
aimed at
women. As
issues to do with
physiques are
popular amongst
woman. This
article would sell
a magazine on
its own
A lot of woman tan, so an article on why they shouldn't do it will trigger their
curiosity for their health.
Sex gossip is
common in
feminine
magazines.
Telling me this
magazine is
aimed at 16 year
old and older.
THECOSTUME
Very loose, hanging dress, shows relaxation, as if to say even though she's been thru rubbish she's still relaxed and calm. A representation of a Role Model for young woman going though domestic abuse.
No Background
complication,
only white
background, so
that nothing
distract from
her. Telling
readers the
article is going
to show her for
what she is,
with no
gimmicks and
celebrity
masks.
Yellow is a very feminine colour, giving bright happy connotations. A male orientated magazine would have darker colours. The happier
connotation relate with stereotypes of woman, the more happy, glamorous sex
Small dress to highlight physical features. Portraying her to be the ‘perfect woman’, again giving her a role model representation.
BANNERS
SPLASHES This magazine only has one convention on it. Which is a splash, usually this convention contains a tempting aspect of the magazine of why you should buy it, there is no difference here. The magazine believes its a worth buy as it only cost £2 pound. For this reason is placed in a splash a different colour than the rest of the background. Coloured in black to contrast with the yellow splash background.
AND
The splash is yellow which coordinates itself with the cover star’s bright and attractive dress. As the cover star is the main attraction to the magazine. Its almost as if to say “if you want a magazine about her, then don't worry its 2 pound so you “should” buy it” The fact its the same colour and in the same general area tells us that the offer is as much of a reason o buy the magazine than the cover star. If the two go hand in hand like they've been designed to, then the magazine will be tempting to the average consumer.
DATE/PRICEBARCODE
No Mise-en-scene can be discussed here however conventions can. All magazine and products have a bar code, so it is only a necessity but a convention of magazines. Usually the barcode is in the bottom right of left of the page, as far away from the main cover star as possible. However because of its colour and size, it has been placed in the middle of all the Coverlines. This way it is harder to find, which is the point of a barcode. So its hard to find, not part of the magazine design, but can be founds if necessary
The date and price of the magazine is located usually in a hidden area. This is conventional as the same idea of it being hidden whilst also readable has been adopted for both the price and date. Its text size is extremely small. Emphasising the idea stated previously. This information isn't a vital part of the design, and is more formal. The editors don't want the magazine to seem formal, so they hide all the black and white information inside all the colour and pictures. Making the magazine informative if wanted, whilst also being creative and attractive.
