Our Umbrella Solution

Umbrella

Our umbrella option is the preferred choice of contractors, freelancers and interims that enjoy theflexibility contract work brings but seek the benefits and security of permanent employment status.It is also a great way to experience an alternative to PAYE before deciding on setting up their ownlimited company.

SHMS Contracting Umbrella, is a great option for shorter contracts (typically up to 23 months).Although, we wouldn’t recommend this option for hourly rates that are less than £10.00 per hour.

In order to register with SHMS Contracting contractors can sign up through ouronline portal; making the whole process easy and straightforward.

To demonstrate how much we enjoy welcoming new employees to SHMS Contracting we:

Give them a £20 Voucher, of their choiceGUARANTEE a minimum of 10 hours pay to all employees, even if the client hasn’t had the work for them

What ID / documentation is required to join SHMS?

To register with SHMS Contracting you will need to provide us with the followingdocumentation:

• Valid Passport / National Identity Card (permission to work in UK)

• Full Birth Certificate/ Full Adoption Certificate with proof of National Insurance Number

• Utility Bill / Bank Statement (proof of address)

• P45 (where applicable)

If you are from a country outside the EU then we will also require one of thefollowing:

• Working Visa

• Migrant Visa

• Resident Permit

SHMS Contracting employees are covered by the following insurances:

Professional Indemnity - £2,000,000

Public Liability - £2,000,000

Employers Liability - £10,000,000

Driver’s Negligence Insurance is available with a £3 per person, per weekpremium in addition to the weekly margins detailed on the followingpage.

Whilst processing wage and salary payments, SHMS Contracting retain a small margin. As we retain this at source, it isn’t taken from an individual’s salary and they do not pay any tax on it*. Depending on their pay frequency our margin is:

Weekly paid £20 gross *£12.80 net

Fortnightly paid £35 gross *£22.52 net

Monthly paid £65 gross *£41.65 net

We will send a SMS message to individuals when money has been credited to their bank account.

IR35 is Tax legislation which sought to address the avoidance of Tax and National Insurance contributions (NIC’s) through the use of Personal Service Companies. An Employee of SHMS Contracting will definitely fall outside the scope of IR35 as they will have their PAYE Tax and NICs deducted from their salary.

After HMRC introduced the Onshore Intermediaries – False Self Employment legislation on 6th April2014 we have introduced stringent measures to ensure, if applicable, this option to pay self-employed labour only workforce can continue.

In order to do this we have introduced regular audit checks and questionnaires to ensure the newrules are being adhered to. If we have any reason to believe there is any risk in paying anyone in thisway we will advise our clients and give them the options available to both themselves and theirlabour only subcontractors.

So, if any company utilises the services of self-employed CIS operatives, and operatives that couldbe reclassified as employees by HMRC, we can manage all of them within our CIS and Umbrellaengagement options. We’ll ensure you keep a flexible workforce without the need to employanyone directly and run the risk of having to pay employees when you don’t have the work forthem.

What will an individual need to do to be classified as Self-Employed?

In order to be categorised as self-employed you will need to:

How to work with SHMS

• Request the candidate/contractor to register with us at www.shmscontractingltd.co.uk – simple, quick process• Maybe let them use a PC in your office to get them signed up straight away• Registration can easily be made on mobile devices too

• Or get them to call us on 01489 584 400 – and we will walk them through it

• Once they meet our criteria and are ‘approved’, they will receive personal Log On details for our online portal. Here they can enter expenses, upload photos of receipts, view their pay slips, update their personal information

• We then call the contractor to welcome them to SHMS and confirm which £20 voucher they would like as their welcome gift

• Depending on our agreement; we would need you to advise us of the contractors’ hours by email, spreadsheet or online timesheets

• Contractors will be paid the Friday following the week worked; and will receive a SMS to notify them that monies have been credited to their bank account

• You will have a dedicated Experience Manager and access to a SHMS Director
