The Cicada Collective is a queer and trans* people of color centered organization that

aims to provide access to reproductive resources and address the immediate needs of

our communities by facilitating knowledge shares, collaborating with other

organizations, and providing practical abortion support (transportation, lodging, and

doula services).

We hope to increase accessibility for the communities most often restricted from these

resources, with the understanding that people’s varied experiences with reproductive

oppression and resistance shape the type of support they need. These communities

include but are not limited to: working class people of color, people with both visible and

invisible disabilities, undocumented, incarcerated, or criminalized people, sex workers,

gender and sexual minorities (queer, trans, and gender non-conforming people), legal

minors, and those individuals at the intersections of some or many of these marginalized

identities. We strive to draw from our sense of place to act in solidarity with those in our

area, hoping to strengthen these pathways of resistance.

The Bay Area Doula Project

The Bay Area Doula Project is committed to increasing access to nonjudgmental,

compassionate and empowering doula care to individuals across the full spectrum of their

reproductive experiences, with a specific focus on abortion. In doing so, we foster a culture that

trusts and supports individuals through the full range of reproductive experiences. we extend

that unconditional care and support to benefit people during abortion as well. Although the

experiences of abortion and childbirth differ, similarities exist in that they are both powerful

transitions out of pregnancy, and both necessitate supportive listening and care. The

continuous, positive presence of a doula can improve the way a person feels before, during and

after their abortion experience.

ACRAS: Autonomous Communities for Reproductive and Abortion Support

We see change is needed in providing access to low-income communities of color on

reproductive health knowledge that is culturally inclusive. We need to address these issues

because underserved communities lack comprehensive reproductive health education,

including- radical sex education, free/inexpensive and unbiased information, and abortion

resources. Our strengths and assets include a grassroots collective of empowered people of

color who are womxn, LGBT, queer who are diverse, culturally aware, bilingual , and

undocumented. We envision communities in which there is free access to reproductive health

services for everyone, support is available to anyone who wants it, and reclaiming traditional

body health practices. In the future, we will be successful in, promoting radical health education,

supporting HIV/AIDS communities, sharing skills and resources, providing doula trainings and

emotional support, helping others in their healing process, and ultimately empowering the

community.
