Community Updates & A Community Party! One of the best jobs the Evergreen Chamber has is to keep the community informed about what’s happening in town. Everything from local updates to fun summer event details, the Chamber is your central point of information for all things Evergreen. Here is the latest:

The Evergreen Local Improvement District: There have been many meetings and articles lately talking about a local improvement district or LID. A Local Improvement District (LID) would provide some of the amenities of being incorporated without the cost of creating a city government and no additional property tax. Examples of what becoming a LID would do are to move Evergreen in the eyes of CDOT from “rural” status like towns south of Fairplay to urban status thereby improving upkeep of roadways, curbs, gutters, and crosswalks. Trail connectivity can be completed between activity centers such as the access from the Bergen Park shopping areas all the way to downtown. It is important to know what the LID is all about, please stay informed. You can find more information at downtownevergreen.wordpress.com. The Evergreen High School Stadium Project: EHS is moving forward on a stadium project to improve lighting, seating and the spectator experience for our local sports teams. Currently EHS cannot host night time games and we are in jeopardy of losing the chance to host home playoff games for our state level teams. Evergreen Fire Rescue New Volunteer Organization: Evergreen Fire Rescue is forming an auxiliary volunteer support group of interested community members to provide assistance with special events for prevention and education; and to provide assistance to emergency responders prior, during, and after emergency calls. Slash Collection: Once again Jefferson County has set up a number of slash collection days to help with fire mitigation. Slash is debris, from nature, such as tree limbs, prunings and pine needles. In 2011, Nurse Practitioner Mary Page Smith, was searching for a way to help her children and found traditional

methods were falling short, so when she learned about neurofeedback, she decided to give it a try. With her

medical license, Mary Page was able to purchase the neurofeedback equipment, train to become a Board Certi-

fied Neurotherapist, and perform neurofeedback sessions. Upon seeing the dramatic changes neurofeedback

had on Mary Page’s children, family and friends began requesting neurofeedback for themselves and/or their

children. Eventually, Mary Page was able to leave her nursing job to start the Colorado Center for Neurofeed-

back (then named Evergreen Neurotherapy). Since that time, the business has helped so many individuals that

Mary Page opened a second office in Denver West and has expanded the business with the addition of

TRAZER, a state of the art technology for baseline concussion and return-to-play assessments for athletes.

What is Neurofeedback?

• Neurofeedback is a non-invasive, medication-free therapy for individuals of all ages that creates long-lasting positive change for a wide range of neurological, emotional, and behavioral conditions.

• Neurofeedback works for: ADHD, learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, trauma, anxiety, depres-sion, traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, sleep disturbances, and more. A Quantitative Electroencephalogram (QEEG, or brain map) is performed to identify areas of the brain that are overactive/ underactive or that are not properly communicating with one another.

• An individual protocol is developed to address each client’s specific issues. During therapy sessions, clients train their brain toward more optimal performance. As sessions progress, the brain develops ‘muscles’ in the form of new neuronal connections and optimal brainwave patterns. The best news… once those neuronal connections have been created, they last!

Members in the News Red Rocks Community College Opens a New

Recreation Center

To meet increasing student demand for campus recreation options, Red Rocks Community College approved the construction of the Student Recreation Center. The college recognized the importance of extracurricular activities to meet the needs of the student population, who took it upon themselves to petition RRCC to move forward with the program plan. Using a variety of student engagement activities including town hall meetings, games, visual preference surveys, and social media, the design team generated a program based on student feedback for a new 38,000 square foot student recreation center that includes social lounge space, drop-in cardio and weight fitness space, two group exercise rooms, a two-court gymnasium, climbing and bouldering wall, flexible meeting rooms, renovations to an existing outdoor field, and locker rooms and support space. The program plan received approval from the Colorado Commission on Higher Education in Summer 2014. In early 2015, Red Rocks Community College again selected Davis Partnership Architects to complete the design of the new student recreation center. Construction began February 4, 2016. Red Rocks Community College is planning to open this summer!

The Evergreen Elks Lodge Celebrates 50 years with an Inaugural Ball and a Club Room Grand Opening

The Evergreen Elks Lodge # 4363 had a wonderful 50th Anniversary Inaugural Ball and Club Room Grand Opening. La Cuisine Evergreen catered the VIP lounge, it was tasty! Past Exalted Ruler Bob Horne was presented with the "Officer of the Year" award. We are excited to announce that our own Valli Crockett, Membership Coordinator for the Evergreen Chamber, received the "Elk of the Year" award!

The Elks owe a special thanks to Peggy Nikander and Jim Mitchell for spearheading the bar remodel.

MALT Celebrates 25 Years of Saving the Land and Leaving a Legacy for all of us!

Mountain Area Land Trust (MALT) first made a name for itself in 1992 when the organization rallied the Evergreen community to save the iconic Noble Meadow, adjacent to Elk Meadow along Highway 74. Now 25 years later, MALT is celebrating a quarter century of land and water conservation successes. The organization has protected tens of thousands of acres of open space through local public projects including Blair Ranch, Beaver Brook Watershed, Bergen Nature Trail, and Floyd Hill Open Space, as well as private voluntary conservation agreements and MALT’s own property in Park County on the Pennsylvania Mountain Natural Area.
