Introduction to the Community & School Sports Department The Community and School Sports Department is based at Fort Regent and was introduced in 2006. The department is funded by Education, Sport & Culture and the Home Affairs Department and has the responsibility to ensure that sport is inclusive to all children on Jersey.

They provide a programme of sport activities for anyone aged 8 -15 years old during the school holidays at a significantly low cost to parents & guardians.

The activities on offer in this booklet are for the 2014 Easter school holidays. All costs are listed next to the activity.

How to BookBy Post: Please complete the application form in full and return together with the correct payment to Community & School Sports Department (Holiday Course), Fort Regent, St Helier, JE2 4UX. Payment is required at the time of booking (cash or cheques accepted).Please make cheques payable to ‘THE TREASURER OF THE STATES’. All applications are processed on a first come first served basis. All activities have limited availability. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

Important notes for parents/guardiansAll activities will start and finish at the times stipulated. Please ensure that participants arrive and are collected at the correct times. Instructors cannot take responsibility for children outside session times.

• Access to drink or food at the café is not permissible.

• Please ensure participants bring plenty to drink (non-fizzy) and a snack.

• All equipment will be provided except when indicated.

• Please ensure appropriate footwear and clothing is worn (refusal may be given if inappropriate clothing is worn).

The safety and welfare of your child is the sole responsibility of the Community and School Sports Department whilst the sessions are being delivered.

As a result we would ask that parents and guardians are only allowed inside the sports halls when signing your child in or out.

The organisers will not be responsible for any expense, consequential loss, legal liability, loss or damage to any property or person arising from any matters, acts and/or defaults outside its control. Please note that Education Sport & Culture accepts no liability in relation to any loss/damage arising out of any service/course included in this programme provided by a third party.

For insurance purposes all participants must be within the age bands stipulated at the time of the course.

PLEASE NOTE:

Cancelations and requests for refunds must be made in writing to the Community and School Sports Department at least one week before the course start date.

We would respectfully ask that parents/guardians ensure that participants attend all 4 days of the activities. This is due to a high demand for places owing to the low cost to the KICK OFF courses.

Failure to attend all days without suitable cause could result in future applications being rejected

The department of Education Sport & Culture reserve the right to cancel or amalgamate courses/sessions should there be insufficient demand.

In order to ensure safety and enjoyment of all youngsters the department for Education Sport & Culture reserves the right to refuse applications or withdraw youngsters from activities. Parents/guardians will be informed should the situation arise by the Community Development Officer (Sports) or a member of the department.

Kick Off Easter Holidays 2014

Squash (8-12 years old) These fun sessions are suitable for all ability levels

Venue: Jersey Squash and Racquetball Club –

St Clements Recreational Grounds

Course fee £6.00 for 4 days

Monday 14th – Thursday 17th April 1.00pm - 3.00pm Booking code: SQ-1

These sessions will be delivered by former world no 14 and director of squash & racquetball Nick Taylor at the Squash and Racquetball Club in St Clements. Participants can expect to learn the basic techniques and shots from grip, swing, drives, lobs, boasts and drops shots and put them into fun condition and full match situations. Participants are asked to wear clean non-marking trainers and appropriate clothing. Please bring plenty to drink.

Indoor Bowls (8-15 years old) These fun sessions are suitable for all ability levels

Venue: Grainville Indoor Bowls Club

Course fee £4.00 for 4 days

Monday 14th April – Thursday 17th April 12.30pm - 1.30pm Booking code: Bowls-1

People of any ability can enjoy this sport and it has a great social aspect to it. Whether practicing, playing in a competitive league or just playing with friends. Participants will receive coaching to learn the correct techniques and rules associated with indoor bowls.

Fighting Fit (8-15 years old) These fun sessions are suitable for all ability levels

Venue: East Gallery, Fort Regent

Course fee £5.00 for 4 days

Monday 14th April – Thursday 17th April 2.30pm - 4.30pm Booking code: FF-1

Tuesday 22nd April – Friday 25th April 2.30pm - 4.30pm Booking code: FF-2

Participants can expect to learn basic martial arts (kickboxing) techniques. Sessions will include various martial arts circuit training. No previous experience is necessary. Participants are asked to wear appropriate sports clothing e.g. tracksuits/shorts/t-shirts etc, no jeans. Please bring plenty to drink.

Trampoline, Table Tennis & Badminton (8-15 years old) These fun sessions are suitable for all ability levels

Venue: Queens Hall, Fort Regent.

Course fee £10.00 for 4 days

Monday 14th April – Thursday 17th April 12.30pm – 4.00pm Booking code: TTB-1

Tuesday 22nd April – Friday 25th April 12.30pm – 4.00pm Booking code: TTB-2

These fun sessions are for anyone aged 8-15 years old and are suitable for all levels of ability. Taking part in these sessions will give the participant opportunity to try out all three activities as well as receive coaching from qualified British Gymnastics trampoline coaches. Trampoline - please wear thick socks, long sleeved top and tracksuit bottoms or similar.

Dance Session (8-12 years old) These fun sessions are suitable for all ability levels

Venue: Dance Studio

Course fee £4.00 for 4 days

Tuesday 22nd April – Friday 25th April 1.00pm – 2.30pm Booking code: Dance-1

Gymnastics (8-12 years old) These fun sessions are suitable for all ability levels

Venue: Fort Regent – Queens Hall

Course fee £5.00 for 4 days

Monday 14th April – Thursday 17th April 1.00pm - 3.00pm Booking code: GYM-1

An aerobic dance and fitness class which incorporates elements of hip-hop, samba, salsa and martial arts and street dance. Participants are asked to wear appropriate sports/dance clothing. Please bring plenty to drink.

Fitness Session Week 1 (11-15 years old) Venue: Fort Regent – Circuit area, Junior Gym, Spinning Studio

Fitness Session Week 2 (8-11 years old) Venue: Fort Regent – Circuit area, Junior Gym

Course fee £4.00 for 4 days

Monday 14th April – Thursday 17th April 11.00am – 12.00pm Booking code: Fit-1

This session will focus on improving participants fitness levels through high levels of activity. Sessions will include circuit training, spinning sessions (Fit-1 only) and Junior Gym.

Tuesday 22nd April – Friday 25th April 11.00am – 12.00pm Booking code: Fit-2

This session will be delivered in partnership with The Regent Gym Club. The sessions will allow participants to improve their basic gymnastic skills and techniques including balance and coordination. The will also be opportunities to use the equipment including springboards, bars and balance beams.
