I have been so impressed with their attitude and focus towards their studies that I am confident they will not only be incredibly successful this summer, but also pioneers in their future careers. They have been real role models for our younger pupils. Whilst our main focus is on academic success, offering pupils opportunities outside the classroom is also very important. Bon voyage to several trips that are taking place over half term and thank you to all staff that are giving their time freely to support our pupils: German trip to Berlin Water sports to Ardeche Football tour to Barcelona Football trip to Germany There have also been several trips during curriculum time, which have been very well received by our pupils: Geography trip to Canary Wharf STEM trip – Built Environment National athletics first round Lycamobile regional football final I have decided to move towards Non-Teaching Heads of Year and we recently held the formal interviews. I would like to thank the four parents who led the panel interviews and helped us make two excellent appointments. The HOY team will be as listed below as soon as the Year 11s leave on 20th June in preparation for September 2017:- Year 7 - Mrs Wright (covering for Mrs Atkinson Maternity Leave) Year 8 - Miss Downton Year 9 - Mr Main Year 10 - Mr Hellen Year 11 - Mrs Robertson These staff will be there to support your child as best as we can and we welcome your support. We will return on Monday 5th June 8.40am for a normal school day. Please keep encouraging your child to attend a club and make the most of the support available to them at Woodlands School. The team have been working extremely hard behind the scenes the last few months on various projects. OnMonday22ndMay,theystartedofftheirperformanceswithaperformanceatTowngateTheatre.TheywereinvitedtoperformastheguestactattheBasildonMusicFestival.Thiswasagreatsuccess,wewere very proud to be asked to perform. We have more events coming up over the next few months so we will keep you posted.

SCHOOLCUPATHLETICSLeigh Cann reporting......

WelldonetoalloftheathleticsteamsthatcompetedinthefirstroundoftheNationalSchoolsCup.Thisisahugecompetitionwithover800schoolsfromacrosstheCountryentering.

ThejuniorgirlsandboysteamshavequalifiedfortheRegionalAfinal,wheretheywillbecompetingagainstthetopschoolsfromEssex,Hertfordshire,Bedfordshire,Cambridgeshire,SuffolkandNorfolk.This is the first time ever that a girls team from Woodlands has qualified for the A final. The inter boys teamhavequalifiedfortheRegionalBfinal,wheretheywillbelookingtoscoreaschoolrecordofcloseto480points!Theintergirlsteamreallypulledtogetherandwerethe‘team of the day’ for teamwork and effort!! They broke the long standing school record and there were some fantastic individual performances on the day.

TheCreativeArtsDepartmentareexcitedlyenteringthefinalstagesofrehearsalsforthisyear’sshow,LittleShopofHorrors.Wehavebeenhardatworkperfectingtheshow’sclassichits,suchas“FeedMe,”“SuddenlySeymour”and“GrowForMe”undertheexpecttutelageofourMusicalDirector,MrsBrown.IntheDramaDepartment,ouroutstandingDirector,MrTownsendisassistingourleadingactorsinpolishingtheircharactersandlines,readyforafullrun-throughoftheshow!

AdeviouslydeliciousBroadwayandHollywoodsci-fismashmusical,LittleShopofHorrorshasdevouredtheheartsoftheatregoersforoverthirtyyears.ThemeekfloralassistantSeymourKrelbornstumblesacrossanewbreedofplanthenames"AudreyII"-afterhisco-workercrush.Thisfoul-mouthed,R&Bsinging carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feedingit:-BLOOD!
