Located in central North Carolina, Alamance County is situated on two interstates, midway between two metro areas, and under an hour from two commercial airports. This unique combination of location, access, and proximity are keysto moving and connecting people, goods, and services and why Alamance County is recognized as The CarolinaCorridor.

These same attributes were also important in the economic history of the county as the textile industry located andgrew here becoming our signature industry. This economic base shaped the character of our local communities asthey developed around the mills. Over time, both the economic base and the local cities and towns within the countyhave changed and diversied.

Today, Alamance County boasts an impressive roster of national and international companies in textiles, still, but alsomedical testing, automotive components, consumer goods, and industrial components. Similarily, our collection ofsmall and medium size cities and towns oers the amenities and services required to support world class businessesand their employees.

Expanding and enhancing the local communities’ oerings are those of the cities of the two neighboring metroareas. To the east, the Research Triangle Park region features the city-cluster of Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill. To thewest, the Piedmont Triad region features the Greensboro-Winston Salem-High Point cluster. Each metro has a commercial airport about 40 minutes from Alamance County via interstate. As both metros grow toward the center,Alamance County, siting “between the airports,” is primed to continue growing as a strategic business location.

*Starting with the 2005-2006 fiscal year, sales and use tax report is not comparable to previous fiscal year reports. In Fiscal Year 2005-06 the Streamlined Sales Tax Agreement required a change in the Sales & Use Tax return so that not all taxpayers reported gross retail sales. Beginning with the report for Fiscal Year 2005-06, we reported only gross collections and taxable sales.
