History

French and English colonial explorersdocumented that the area was inhabitedby First Nations. Prior to the creationof the Province of New Brunswick, thearea was settled as land grants. The landgrants were re-registered with the influxof the United Empire Loyalists in 1784.

The former Town of Grand Bay and theformer Village of Westfield, originallypart of “cottage country”, wereamalgamated in 1998.

Lifestyle

Scenic waterways present muchopportunity for recreation of all kinds,in all seasons – from bird watching,to kayaking, to ice fishing. As well,the town has many service clubsand organizations. This family-friendly community has manyservices available to residents andhousing options are varied, fromrural to suburban. A short ferry rideaway is pastoral, rural NewBrunswick. The City of Saint John isa quick trip away on the highway.Saint John Transit offers a bus serviceconnecting the town with all pointsin Saint John.
