Community Newsletter November 2018 A Thank You To Military Families And Veterans! This month our Nation recognizes and honors all military families as Military Family Appreciation Month begins! November marks the annual celebration of the Military Family in which our country gives tribute to the commitment and sacrifices made by the families of our Nation’s Service Members. Lincoln Military Housing would like to thank all military families for their steadfast support while facing the special challenges of long deployments, family separations, and frequent relocations with great courage and resolve. Your selfless dedication, which has directly contributed to the mission readiness of our Service Members, is a source of inspiration and deep gratitude. Did you know that Military Family Appreciation Month was established in 1993 by the Armed Services YMCA, with the U.S. Government recognizing the occasion every year since! Thank you ASYMCA! On November 10th, Americans will take a moment to reflect and express gratitude to Service Members who have served and currently serving; we would like to take this opportunity to say thank you and we salute you! Some Tips To Have A Safe Holiday Season Per the Camp Pendleton Family Housing Regulations, the holiday season requires increased safety vigilance. Decorations may be placed in and outside the house as long as they are in compliance with other parts of this Manual (i.e., no nuisance to neighbors, safety, no damage to property, etc.). Outdoor lighting should be done to ensure circuits are not overloaded and wiring is safe. Indoor trees and lighting should be safely wired as well. Live trees should be watered and kept away from heat sources, and artificial trees should be fire resistant. Additionally outdoor holiday displays and lighting are not permitted on rooftops. For two story homes, outdoor lighting cannot be above the first story. Displays and lighting should be turned off every evening by 10:00 PM. Safeguarding your pets is also important – tree water can cause stomach upset and can also be a breeding ground for bacteria. Tree tinsel is loved by playful pets and if swallowed can lead to an obstructed digestive tract, severe vomiting, dehydration and possible surgery. Mistletoe and holly can cause gastrointestinal and cardiovascular problems while many varieties of lilies can cause kidney failure in cats if ingested. Batteries and Hazardous ChemicalsThere are many types of batteries: alkaline batteries, rechargeable batteries, lithium, lithium ion, and zinc air batteries that can be recycled, including batteries from household items (cameras, cell phones, laptops, power tools, etc.). You can take dead alkaline and rechargeable batteries to the following businesses to recycle them: RadioShack, Best Buy, Home Depot, Lowes, or Staples. You may also visit www.call2recycle.org for other locations near you.How to handle hazardous materials:

• Take caution when using or storing products containing hazardous substances to prevent accidents from happening at home.
