Ending child poverty“In 1989 the House made an all party commitment to try to eliminate child poverty by the year 2000. We did not meet that goal. It is very important that we recommit ourselves to that process...”

Providing more family doctors“Regular checkups and preventative health care are far better and cheaper for Canadians than ignoring health problems until a trip to the hospital is required, but far too many families do not have access to a family doctor. It’s time the government addressed this issue.”

I believe that a quality education system is essential to create a strong economy and a fair society. But a lack of funding from both federal and provincial governments is threatening our local schools.

That’s why I tabled a motion in Parliament proposing a National Education Strategy. I believe that every Canadian child is entitled to a high-quality education in our public system – and I will be working in Ottawa to make this happen.

DON PROPOSES A NATIONAL STRATEGY FOR EDUCATION

M-569 — September 16, 2010 — Mr. Davies (Vancouver Kingsway) — That, in the opinion of the House, the government should recognize that a strong Canadian public education system is an essential component to build a strong economy and a fair society that provides opportunities for all Canadians by developing a national education strategy to ensure the provision of high-quality public primary, secondary and post-secondary education across Canada, and provide the funding necessary to the provinces to implement this strategy.

SUPPORTING SMALL BUSINESS: LET’S BUILD A STRONG LOCAL ECONOMY

In Vancouver Kingsway, small businesses are at the heart of our local economy. Thousands of families in our community are supported by paycheques that come from local businesses.

I am working in Parliament to support small business and build a strong economy in Vancouver Kingsway.

An end to the HST which hurts both businesses and families

Better training and education so businesses can find workers with the skills they need

A fair tax system that takes into account the needs of small business, not just wealthy corporations

Safe streets and community investments to encourage families in Kingsway to support our local businesses

Nearly 2 million seniors live in poverty in Canada. Too many seniors in Vancouver Kingsway are forced to choose between paying for medication and paying rent.

That’s why I am working in Parliament to improve pensions for every senior in Canada.

Thi hành một chương trình giáo dục và đào tạo tốt hơn để giới doanh nghiệp có điều kiện tuyển dụng những người làm công đã được trang bị các kỹ năng phù hợp với nhu cầu của mỗi doanh nghiệp

Thiết lập một chế độ thuế công bằng phù hợp với nhu cầu của giới doanh nghiệp nhỏ, chứ không phải chỉ quan tâm đến các công ty lớn

Đầu tư vào việc củng cố an ninh đường phố và phát triển cộng đồng để khuyến khích cư dân trong vùng Kingsway hỗ trợ các doanh nghiệp địa phương

Ủng hộ doanh nghiệp nhỏ và xây dựng một nền kinh tế địa phương vững mạnh
