Michael Monarch's guitar playing perhaps helped best capture the spirit of the 1960s. His work with the iconoclastic "Steppenwolf" (recently nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame) remains a hallmark of the unique mixture of psychadelic and rock. As the original guitarist for "Steppenwolf", he plaid on all the hits including Rock and Roll Hall of Fame songs Born To Be Wild, Magic Carpet Ride, Rock Me Baby, and The Pusher.Jimmy Peyton's soulful voice and stage persona are remarkable. A natural entertainer, he has played in many local bands around Florida and Nashville, Tennessee, including "Mad Dogs - The Joe Cocker Experience" with David Dix of "The Outlaws" and Kenny Suarez of "Iron Butterfly". He transitions wonderfully through different genres of Rock, Country, Pop, Blues, Trop-Rock and Soul putting his own stamp on each. Jimmy has been singing for decades and has put in some dues.

GlenLakes presents
When Jim Nantz and Peter Deutsch met, they discovered they had both found success by pursuing a calling in life.
For Jim, that calling was to unlock the voice within, eventually calling the greatest sporting events of his
generation. For Peter, it was transforming a small family business into one of the most prestigious wine
companies in the world.
Inspired by their mentor fathers and guided by their common values, the two found a new calling: a partnership to produce hand-crafted wines that bear
the standard of excellence and Style that are the hallmarks of these two men.

Thank YouWonderful, charismatic, charming, mannerable, loving, exceptional, beautiful smile, and a contagious laughter are just a few thoughts that come to mind when thinking about my late husband, Arthur A. Haywood.
I didn’t really know what type of turnout to expect for his Celebration of Life ceremony held at the club, especially since the snowbirds weren’t here. I was overwhelmed with the number of people that came to pay their last respects. It was an absolute joyous tribute to a man who was respected by many. I’m sure he was smiling down upon us as we celebrated his life with full military honors.
Richard and his team did an exceptional job, especially considering we were estimating a little over 100 people and ended up closer to 200. Kudos to your entire staff. Thank-you “Team Haywood” for all of your hard work in helping coordinate the Celebration. A very special thank-you to David Tharp who was by my side the entire time and continues to provide support as I try to move forward without Arthur. There just aren’t any words to express my gratitude, except thanks Chris. 😉
I’ve received over 100 cards mostly from within the community but also as far North as Canada and South as California. I am truly blessed to live in a community such as GlenLakes. In closing, I’d like to quote the verbiage in one of the cards I received:
“Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed, and very dear.”
Thank-you Gina G. Haywood

GlenLakes Kayak ClubNOVEMBER 2019
UPCOMING FALL PADDLESNovember 19 Withlacoochee River to Hog Island
SAFETY TRAININGAt the March 2020 paddle from Hunters Spring in Crystal River we will be conducting "Safety Training" for all who like to volunteer to be SAFETY's on our paddles.
Our SAFETY's are important on all our paddles. For if someone is having difficulty paddling they are there to provide guidance. They are also there to help anyone who might fall out of their boats.
The "on/in water" training will be held an hour before our March 18th (tentative) paddle at Hunters Spring in Crystal River. Training will include:• Proper paddling strokes• How to tow another kayak• How to right a kayak• How to safely return a paddler
to their kayak• Paddle signals• How to use a radio
We really need some new volunteers. Current safeties are most welcome for refresher training. Please see Curt for more information. For more information concerning the GlenLakes Kayak Club please contact Curt Reilly at [email protected] 352.596.2737
Marine Unit Sheriff At the October 3rd membership meeting we had as our guest speaker Hernando County Deputy Sheriff Cpl Steve Kelly from the Marine Unit. Cpt Kelly provides us with a very comprehensive update on the most recent regulations concerning paddle craft on the Weeki Wachee River. He also reminded us of some the critical safety protocols we need to keep in mind when paddling.
November 15th "Celebration" MeetingLast meeting for the 2019-2020 seasons will be on Friday November 15 in the downstairs "Member Room" (aka fitness room). Complementary hot hor d'oeuvres and appetizers will be served to all our GLKC members. A $5 charge will be collected for all spouses/significant others who are not members. Bar service will also be provided with a club number.End-of-Year Celebration will include some very special "awards" to those members who distinguished themselves in a variety of ways.We will also have sign-ups for the November 19th paddle on the Withlacoochee River to Hog Island
September Paddle - Sarasota & Our Quest for the Sarasota StarfishAnother successful kayak trip by the GLKC. Off to Sarasota early morning out for the group. Ride was 2 hours & change one traffic jam due to a Floridian driving into the Tampa Bay! Really so not necessary. Once in our boats we were off in Sarasota Bay in search of Starfish. We were able to view the homes of some of the rich and famous. We don't know who the famous are but we could certainly tell that they were rich. We were hoping to see dolphins but they were not to be found and only one manatee was found... We did see many birds, egrets, ibis, cranes, and many Anhingas followed us around in our boats. We beached our Kayaks searching for starfish and the stretch our legs. Our group photo was taken too. The tide was low so swimming was not in the cards. Our next leg of the paddle was dare I say in the mangrove channels. Once we found them we were happy to see that they were fairly wide and high. We were still searching for the elusive starfish but they were not to be found. We did get lost on our way, and hard to believe, the men refused to ask for directions! But as always this great group of kayakers went along without a complaint. We had a great paddle and a lot of laughs. Never did see one Starfish. Our day ended at the Columbian Restaurant in St. Armands Square, would you believe does not sell any Mexican Beer. We enjoyed our late lunch and then journeyed home.

O C T O B E R 2 0 1 9GLENLAKES MEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION
FEBRUARY 14 & 15, 2020 • GLENLAKES MEMBER’S “COUPLES’ ECLECTIC”
In January 2020 we will need to replace 3 GLMGA Board Members whose terms are expiring. Anyone who is interested please contact any current Board Member or Dick Broyles for more information.
Welcome back to our friends from the up north as fall and winter is setting in up there! Our days and nights are now getting to be perfect. Golf’s fall season is going well, Football season is in full swing, hockey is started and baseball is in the playoffs. It’s a nice time to be in GlenLakes.
Also if anyone has comments or questions please let me know. My email address is [email protected].
The Weeki Wachee Men’s and Ladies Golf Teams are having a great season. They have Conference and District tournaments next week. Because these kids walk and use a push cart they have limited access to sand for filling divots in the fairways and the rough. During tournaments at home here at GlenLakes we also can have additional teams and if they don’t fill in divots things could become a mess. No matter what you may have heard I have been out with both the boys and girls, and they are pretty conscientious about keeping those divots filled. Plus the coaches and I are out there watching and doing our best to make sure that nothing is missed. We will be working on a solution for this for next years season so that sand bottles will be available for the our team and visiting teams that will be kept here for future use.
I wish I could say that our entire membership works as hard as the kids do at filling divots, repairing ball marks and my special favorite raking bunkers properly. Here is a picture that I took the other day that illustrates how lazy some can be….
This golfer walked around the rake to hit his shot then exited stage left… There’s no excuse for this.
Sign up for a two-day eclectic golf tournament which will be held on Friday, February 14th and Saturday, February 15th. The field will range from a minimum of 24 teams to a maximum of 36 teams. If we reach 36 teams, a substitute list will be generated. Flights will be determined by the number of teams participating. Flights will be grouped by the “Total Index” of the team. Sign-up will start in the Pro Shop on Saturday December 15th, 2018 at 8:00 am. The entry fee is $100/per couple and must be paid when you sign up. If you are bringing a guest for the Saturday Buffet, there will be an additional charge. Please make your checks out to the GLMGA.
Registration for the tournament will start at 10 am on Friday, February 14th, followed by a Continental type breakfast. Range balls will also be provided. The tournament will commence with a 12:30 shotgun. There will be a “closest to the pin” on Friday’s round only. Following the completion of the round on Saturday, (also a 12:30 shotgun start), there will be a buffet in the Ballroom and an award presentation for the “Overall Winning Team” as well as the “Flight Winners.” If you have any questions, please contact Lucky or Donna Tabor at 352-592-6702.

Well, we got our wish. The summer rains have ended abruptly, with Hurricane Dorian, averaging over 12 inches a month for June, July and August. In September, we had less than 1.5 inches but, the ponds and lakes are still at high levels. Our fall schedule is well underway. The September 19th registration and sign-up meeting was well attended. President Helen Connors welcomed all and introduced the various board members and chairpersons. Registration for the various events was available with many taking advantage of the opportunity.Upcoming Dates: All events have a limited number of seats still available. Nov. 3rd, Show Palace Dinner Theatre Nov. 12th, Pool Party Dec. 12th, Christmas Dinner Dance Jan. 16th, Wine TastingWatch your emails for further updates. The evening ended with an overflowing table of deserts provided by our own Board members.Question-What is Italy’s answer to the Potato Chip? FYI-The Taralli, it is an Italian pretzel/cracker similar in texture to a bread stick. They are classically formed into rings or ovals, and can be frozen or kept in air tight containers for months. Tarallis were brought to America initially by Rosetans, from Roseto, Italy in 1882, but were common place all over the southern Italian peninsula. They are made by mixing a batter consisting of wheat flour, vegetable oil, sea salt and a special ingredient which can be among others, black pepper, olives, fennel, wine, anise or almonds. As a young boy I can remember the yearly ritual of my mother and aunts. They would spend 3 days making several types of Tarallis. They made enough to last a year. My father and uncles job was to knead the dough. Once the dough was ready it was rolled, shaped, boiled, dried and baked. The Tarallis we sampled after our meeting were courtesy of Giovanni’s Italian Deli and Bakery in Worcester, Massachusetts. And now you know the rest of the story! PS- My favorite is the fennel but Gail enjoys the wine.Wishing all a Happy Thanksgiving, Rich and Gail Mercadante

PICKLEBALL NEWSIt’s been a good month on the pickleball courts. Almost all of our snowbirds are back and the courts are busy and the weather is great. Our numbers continue to grow. As of now, we have over 60 players on our roster. We would like to see that number grow even larger. Then, hopefully, building more pickleball courts can become a reality.
Included are pictures of some of our players in action this past month. Thought you would enjoy seeing some of our dedicated players on the courts as they play this amazing game of pickleball.
Remember open play is Monday, Thursday and Saturday at 8:30 am and on Wednesday at 1 pm. Hope you will come out and give pickleball a try. Its fun and a great workout.
Have a blessed Thanksgiving everyone.

TENNIS IS FOR A LIFETIMEI was reading an online a tennis segment that a professional acquaintance, Yann Auzoux, wrote. I thought I would share this information with you. I also decided to inject some (potentially true) humor to his article….It is a little like having Richard Kennedy in the background with his quick wit….read on an you will see what I mean.Yann writes: “Many people have said that tennis is the best sport for lifetime exercise. But what makes this true? In order to answer this question, we'll look at five benefits that are seen to enhance the big three; mind, body, and spirit.” "#1 Research has shown that people who play tennis at a moderate intensity may cut down risk of death by any cause by 50%. Physician Ralph Paffenbarger from the Harvard School of health has studied over 10,000 people and found results that indicate this statistic is true.” (Old age is coming at a really bad time!)"#2 Other studies suggest that tennis is responsible for improving vigor, optimism, and self-esteem. Dr. Joan Finn from Southern Connecticut state compared tennis players to athletes from other sports and found that they also scored lower on depression, anger, confusion, anxiety, and tension. (I don't need anger management. I need people to stop ticking me off.)"#3 Tennis has shown to improve cognitive functioning throughout a full lifetime. Scientists from the University of Illinois found that tennis may help form new connections between nerve endings in the brain. Since the sport requires alertness and tactical thinking, players are often pushed to exercise mental fortitude.” (Of course I talk to myself, sometimes I need expert advice.)“#4 When compared to golf, inline skating, and many other sports, tennis is ranked highest for developing positive personality characteristics, according to Dr. Jim Gavin. These include openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism.” (My people skills are just fine. It's my tolerance to idiots that needs work.)“#5 Studies on caloric expenditure indicate that competitive tennis burns more calories than aerobics, inline skating, or cycling.” (I don't trip over things, I do random gravity checks!)“So if you want to have fun and stay healthy, tennis is the sport for you!” (Last year I joined a support group for procrastinators. We haven't met yet!)HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE!!Enjoy your day and have a wonderful time. Judy J.

November always seems to mark the beginning of a busy season of the year. It is a time for gathering with friends and family to laugh and enjoy good food whether in our homes or in the restaurants we love.October FINALLY saw the end of those pesky bugs we so affectionately name “love bugs”. In spite of them our members managed to continue our activities. Dinner at old favorites- Carraba’s and The Cove were enjoyed as was our lunch at Limoge in Dade City. Our newest find was The Silver Dolphin where we had a really nice dinner.
A very special thank you to Dona for hosting our game night and pizza party at her home. Our November begins with our meeting on the 5th at 11:30. Reservations will be necessary for this meeting as it will be a lun-cheon. Dinners this month will be at The Rising Sun on the 12th, Texas Roadhouse on the 19th and Guido’s Pizza on the 26th.A table has been reserved for Thanksgiving Dinner at Glenlakes for 2:30 on the 28th. Because seats are limited, please contact Janet at 507-0150 if you wish to attend. All members of Glenlakes Club are welcome to join the Glenlakes Social Club and participate in our activities. The pictures below are from our September dinner at Brian’s Place where we had really fabulous piano music with our meal and a picture of some of our group boarding the “Island Rose” for our luncheon cruise from Hernando Beach.
NOTE FROM PRESIDENT KAROLYN STOKLEYHello to All! As I read the October Eagle letter, I saw that I wrote “...we have cooler weather...” Sorry for that false information, but I think it will be cooler this month. We are approaching the end of the year, and many activities will be occurring. Our ladies have worked very hard planning the tournaments, and we can show our appreciation by participation, either as a player or a volunteer.
I want to welcome back Alma Chaffman to the GLLGA Family. We are looking forward to playing with you again.
Thank you to Honora Browne and the Nominating Committee and to all of you who voted for our officers for 2020.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

In 2018 food was provided to a little over 700 children and 2019 is tracking about the same. A complete list of foods will be listed on a poster attached to the receptacle box located just out side the main level dinning room. DATES TO REMEMBER - FROM NOV. 8TH - NOV. 26TH
