friends as well as meet new ones!

If you’re in your 60s or 70s, it’s important that you maintain a strong network of friends, family and acquaintances because:• It gives you a sense of belonging• It keeps mental illness away. • It helps you stay relevant. • It puts you in a good frame of mind.

We all need a sense of belonging and this is why we socialize. And although we tend to interact with others during our teenage and early adult years, we need an active social life more than ever as we grow old.

It’s hard to believe it’s already No-vember, which inevitably means it’s going to be really busy until the New Year. We already have a lot going on in November; we head to the polls to cast our vote, honor our veterans, prepare for the big gather-ings on Thanksgiving Day, and don’t forget the kick-off of the holiday shopping season on Black Friday! With so much going on, it’s easy to be overwhelmed and feel that you are having your energy zapped. That’s why it’s important to take care of yourself during these busier, and colder, months.

Come by the Community Center for some “me” time; stretch out your stress in Seniors Yoga or come share a story at our Wednesday Socials. You can even just stop in for a cup of coffee in our welcom-ing lounge area. Don’t forget to eat right during the month as well! This month we are featuring healthy and quick snacks that you can eat on the go; so you don’t have to swing by that fast food chain.

We hope you enjoy our November Newsletter and hope to see you around at the Community Center. From all of us here, we hope you have a safe and joyous November as we gear up for the holiday season.

It is important for everyone to keep physically and mentally active during these winter months. We have a variety of Con-tinuing Education courses to teach you more about the things you love as well as things you may not know anything about at all! Spend some time making your own holiday gifts instead of pur-chasing them, learn more about music, sit in on a seminar or book discussion and even learn how to eat healthy snacks on the go.

Masterpiece Theater: Make sure to bring your creativity and imagination to this class every Monday. We will cover everything from painting and drawing to poetry and dance. Nov 19: Music Appreciation-What makes a classic a classic?Nov 26: Drawing your holiday wonderland

Book Club: On the first Friday of each month, we’ll be reading and sharing our thoughts on the story and charac-ters from historical novels to romantic classic books, and everything in between. The plot twist for this book club: we’ll be sharing our thoughts over potluck food that follows the story. Our book of the month for November, as picked by our Seniors, is the classic novel “To Kill A Mocking-bird” by Harper Lee.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Charles Chettle

This month we feature Charles Chettle, as our Senior of the Month.

Charles was one of the first patrons to utilize the newly provided trans-portation to and from the Commu-nity Center to his home at Park Place Senior Apartments. During the week, you can find Charles at the Commu-nity Center swimming. He can swim “underwater half the length of the pool”! Fridays, you can find him bowling in the Seniors League at

Bowl America in Manassas.

Charles has lived in a number of different areas, and has a story to remember each one. He fondly remembers when Springfield was the “country” having only one inter-section with a corner store and a gas station!

Come by and chat with Charles and check out all that the Senior Passport has to offer!!
