The Sir Oswald Stoll Foundation Leisure Club is an independent organisationbased at the Sir Oswald Stoll Foundation, a registered charity and sociallandlord which provides housing and support to vulnerable and disabled ex-Servicemen and women.

The affairs of the Leisure Club are managed by a Leisure Club Committee, the members of which are elected annually by the residents of the Sir OswaldStoll Foundation.

The Leisure Club is currently responsible for organising at the Fulham site:• Weekly healthy eating classes for residents -along with compiling and

distributing a recipe book for all residents• Weekly trips to the supermarket• Weekly bingo sessions and dance classes in the community centre• Monthly trips such as outings to London Zoo, Kew Gardens, Wimbledon,

Army & Navy Rugby MatchThese activities will be extended and offered to the residents of our ChiswickWar Memorial Homes site along with onsite activities such as computertraining and social gatherings.

2. Please give a brief description of the work or project for which you arerequesting funding.

The very successful model at our Fulham Road site is centred on theCommunity Hall and its facilities. The aim of the Leisure Club is to offerresidents at the Chiswick scheme the same range of facilities at the newlybuilt Community Centre there but requires furniture, crockery and cutlery tomake it a completely useable venue. It is these items for which a grant issought.

The residents at the well established site in Fulham have provided verypositive feedback on classes and activities available here.At present our newly completed Chiswick War Memorial Homes site cannotoffer these facilities but it is important that all residents feel valued and ofequal status. Providing facilities and activities at only 1 of our sites is not anoption we can accept as it excludes residents, most of who are eitherphysically or mentally disabled or vulnerable. The safety and security of their homes and associated services helps thembuild confidence and a measure of independence. This is "their" CommunityCentre and, although they have the opportunity to engage in activities offeredat the main site, the Chiswick Centre belongs to them and will help bring thecommunity together.

In line with the Stoll Foundation and Leisure Club's view, these facilities willalso be available to the wider Services and ex-Services community, encouraging and supporting friendships and relationships in the Borough. Some facilities would additionally be available to the community at large topromote community cohesion interests.

The Community Centre has already been built and the main Support Officeopened. The kitchen and toilet facilities are in place and large, light, bright communityarea ready for furnishing.A grand opening of the Chiswick War Memorial Homes (CWMH) is plannedfor later in the year as is a Garden Party for residents to bring them alltogether in this new setting. Many do not yet know who their neighbours are and so the Residents'Association together with the Leisure Club and staff, intend these events tointroduce the support team, housing team and residents face to face.We propose to start holding these events from mid - November 2010, shouldfunding be made available.
