Community Fundraising Pack

Welcome Letter From CEOThank you for choosing to raise funds to provide support and services to South Australians experiencing disadvantage. Organising your own fundraising event or activity is as fun as it is rewarding. You can fundraise on your own, in a group, at school, with your Parish or at work.

There are so many ways you can share the love and fundraise for AnglicareSA. Whether it’s an event or in celebration of a special occasion, this pack contains the tools and resources to help make your fundraiser a huge success.

Once you have chosen your activity and set a date please register it with our fundraising team so we can provide you with an Authority to Fundraise and any other tools you may require.

For over 160 years AnglicareSA has provided care and support with a voice for disadvantaged and vulnerable people in our communities. Today AnglicareSA supports more than 62,000 people each year through over 140 programs. Today, more than ever, demand for our services is growing, as economic pressures leave many families and individuals facing insurmountable challenges.

AnglicareSA proudly stands beside these people offering compassion and assistance at a time when many feel there is nowhere else to turn. But we don’t do this alone. Many of our services receive support through Government funding, however there remains a large number of AnglicareSA programs that receive no funding and rely entirely on the generosity of the community.

Through the support of people like yourself we are able to ensure these vital services continue. We thank you for coming on this journey with us.

We look forward to hearing about your exciting events and sharing your successes with our supporters along with the families and individuals that we help every day.

Best wishes

Rev Peter Sandeman CEO

Choosing a program to support

AnglicareSA Community Fundraising Pack Page 2

Star BearStar Bear is a unique program that offers children and young people the opportunity to grieve after the loss of a parent, sibling or significant person in their lives. Currently this is the only program of its type in South Australia and is the longest running grief camp in Australia. Parents and their children have the chance to share their story and learn more about grief and how to support each other. The program completely relies on fundraising and support of volunteers.

Each year three weekend camps are held; two camps for younger children aged 5-12 years and one for whole families. The camps include art therapy, group sessions, outdoor adventure activities, team building exercises and remembrance ceremonies. On the final day families and carers join the children for lunch and a remembering ceremony.

Turning Point Turning Point is a program developed to provide safe and stable accommodation for single parent families experiencing homelessness in Northern Adelaide. South Australia’s severe property shortage means homeless families are often housed in motels or sleep rough. This creates dislocation from schools, support networks and communities. Without safe crisis options, it is difficult to break the cycle of homelessness.

Turning Point tenants experience more than just ‘homelessness’, including domestic and family violence, alcohol and other drug (AOD) addiction/recovery, chronic physical illness or mental illness. Families spend 59 days on average in a Turning Point property – this reinforces that families are keen to get back on their feet as quickly as possible and don’t want long term dependency. 91% of Turning Point participants have gone on to access permanent housing.

Choosing a program to support Continued

Emergency AssistanceOur Emergency Assistance services provide members of the community with support at a time when they need it most. These services include emergency food relief, financial assistance, financial counselling, housing advice, homelessness support, mental health services, and child and youth services.

Each year, we assist more than 7,500 households across South Australia with essential support. Demand is increasing every year. Many of AnglicareSA’s community services support individuals and families who are experiencing some type of financial stress. The flow-on effect of financial stress is significant in terms of housing instability, family relationships, mental health and domestic and family violence.

The Foodbarn at our Elizabeth Mission provides emergency food services for families and individuals in crisis every year including personal care, nappies, pharmacy and shoe vouchers, blankets and linen. They also stock a wide variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, bread and a range of frozen and tinned foods. The Food Barn also serves approximately 22,000 free hot meals a year, through a lunchtime walk in service, made possible through volunteers, donors and community support.

Thread TogetherThread Together has relationships with fashion houses across Australia that donate end of line clothing that would otherwise go to landfill and distributes for free to people experiencing vulnerability in South Australia.

AnglicareSA distributes this brand new stock via Thread Together vans that are fitted out as mobile wardrobes, filled with clothing, shoes underwear, active wear and accessories. These vans circle a range of AnglicareSA programs from the north of Adelaide, through to the south.

People are referred to the Thread Together service via counsellors who work with the clients to assess their needs. If clothing is something the client needs, they will be given access to the Thread Together service.

The program runs with support of fantastic volunteers who drive the vans and style the clients.

The essence of our program is to ensure that people who are going through hard times can have a dignified experience and utilise clothing to move forward in life.

There are so many ways you can fundraise for AnglicareSA. Whether it’s an adventure of your own, an event with friends and family or as part of your business, we have the tools and resources to help make your fundraiser a big success.

What are your passions and interests? Thinking about this often sparks great ideas and your experience and enthusiasm will really help you promote your fundraising and get people on board!

Recording donations Using the Fundraising Results Form available with this pack or on our website, you can record the details of a donation should the donor want to receive a receipt. Receipts for donations over $2 can be processed once all money has been received by AnglicareSA along with your list of donors. Email addresses are really handy for after the event when you want to say thanks. See below.

Credit card donations can be made online via our website on the Donate Page. In the comments section the donor can list your event and this will be added to your event tally.

Banking donationsIncluded in this pack or available online is a Banking Deposit Slip. Please use these details to deposit the funds at an ANZ Bank. Otherwise you can return funds to: Fundraising at our Head Office at 159 Port Road, Hindmarsh, SA. We ask that you try to deposit your funds within 14 days of your event please.

Employer matched fundingDouble the funds you raise by asking your employer to support your efforts and match your fundraising!

Many organisations now have a program in place called ‘matched funding’ as part of their corporate social responsibility program. This means they support their employees’ efforts by matching their fundraising dollar for dollar.

We suggest you talk with your Human Resources, People and Culture or Corporate Communications department. Even if they don’t have a matched funding program in place, they may consider making a donation to support your efforts for a charitable cause.

It’s best if you can approach your employer face-to-face, communicating your message, connection to the cause and your fundraising goal. If this is not possible, send an email or call the appropriate person.

AnglicareSA can supply any further information or official documentation you may need and send your organisation a tax-deductible donation receipt. Do let us know if your employer agrees to match the money you raise and we’ll send a letter of thanks and a certificate to you and your organisation following your fundraiser.

Other ways to get your organisation involvedIf not through matched funding, your employer may like to make a donation, help you promote your fundraising activity or allow you to fundraise in the workplace.

If you need more information on how your employer can support your fundraising for AnglicareSA, please contact our fundraising team on 8305 9205 or email [email protected]

FAQs

AnglicareSA Community Fundraising Pack Page 9

Can you supply receipts and are there circumstances when I cannot issue a receipt?Any donation of $2 and more is tax deductible as long as the donor did not receive any goods or services for their donation. Examples of goods or services include: event entry, raffle ticket, auction prize or sausage sizzle. All online donors will automatically receive an email containing their tax deductible receipt.

Cash donors will be given the option of requesting a receipt through the authorised fundraiser. Authorised fundraisers should contact the Fundraising team to request a copy of the Fundraising Results Form where all requests for tax deductible receipts can be recorded.

If I want to collect cash donations at my event, what do I have to do?AnglicareSA can provide you with AnglicareSA branded money boxes to collect donations. To arrange this, you will need to register your fundraising event or activity and contact [email protected] detailing where and how you plan to collect cash so we can determine the best item/s to provide.

Do I need public liability cover for my fundraising activity? All aspects of financial and public liability and public safety are the responsibility of the event organiser. As AnglicareSA is not the event organiser we are unable to cover any liability on your behalf. Therefore, we ask that event organisers determine their own public liability requirements as in many cases your activity can fall under the cover of your venue. If your event venue is unable to use their own public liability to cover your event, there are many insurance providers who offer community event public liability cover, often specifically tailored for one-off not-for-profit events.

Please note that by agreeing to the AnglicareSA Fundraising Guidelines you agree to release AnglicareSA to the fullest extent permissible under law for all claims, except where such liability arises because of the negligence of AnglicareSA or its agents.

Can I get an ambassador or guest speaker to talk at my event? We love being able to support community fundraising events. While we understand the impact an AnglicareSA Ambassador or Guest Speaker can have on your event, we are not able to accommodate every request due to limited resources. Please email [email protected] and advise your request for a guest speaker when you register your fundraising activity. A member of the fundraising team will be in touch with you to discuss.

How do I bank the money I raise? Please bank money raised within 14 days of your fundraiser. Bank details are included in your Authority to Fundraise letter and the Donation Banking Slip available on our website. Please also send an email to [email protected] to confirm the transfer or for assistance with banking. You can continue to fundraise for AnglicareSA through your online fundraising page until the expiry date, set at the time of registration.

I want to advertise my fundraising event, can you help? The resources page is full of terrific tools to help you promote your event. Please go there and have a look. Don’t forget that all registered fundraisers can get in contact to request our Proudly Supporting AnglicareSA logo - this is the only AnglicareSA logo authorised for use by AnglicareSA Community Fundraisers. Unfortunately, due to limited resources we are not able to personally help you advertise the event.

My friend is homeless. I want to raise money directly for him. Can you help?Unfortunately, AnglicareSA can’t provide you with an authority to fundraise in this manner. Our authority to fundraise is for programs and services for people impacted by socio economic disadvantage in general. You may wish to explore online crowdfunding options for personal fundraising.

We are happy for you to refer your friend to AnglicareSA. For program assistance please contact 8305 9200.

Thanks again for your support! We’re sure that you’ll enjoy fundraising for AnglicareSA and know that you will share in the reward of supporting the programs and services available to South Australians facing socioeconomic disadvantage.

Under the Collections for Charitable Purposes Act 1939, anyone wishing to raise money for charitable purposes on behalf of another organisation must hold an authority to fundraise issued by that organisation. So before you get started in your fundraising for Anglicare SA Limited (AnglicareSA), AnglicareSA will need to authorise your fundraising activity, project or event.

All individuals, groups or organisations who wish to fundraise must agree to these terms and conditions by completing and signing the ‘Disclaimer and Fundraising Agreement’ (Agreement) on the Community Fundraising Registration Form and register with us, whatever the size of the event or the donation (cash or kind). This Agreement is designed to assist you in planning your event in support of AnglicareSA and to clarify your obligations in doing so. These terms and conditions form a legally binding agreement made between you (as the fundraiser) and AnglicareSA, and contain some important information.

Becoming a AnglicareSA fundraiserTo start raising funds for AnglicareSA, please read through these terms and conditions, then complete and sign the Agreement. If your fundraiser/event is suitable, AnglicareSA will send you an authorisation letter to fundraise on its behalf. AnglicareSA may decide whether or not your event is suitable in its sole discretion. The authorisation will be valid for the date(s) of the event, as set out on this Agreement.

You are not authorised to use AnglicareSA as your beneficiary charity until you have received the authorisation letter.

Fundraising for AnglicareSADue to limited resources, AnglicareSA is not able to take a coordination role in your event, such as assistance with ticket sales, soliciting prizes or organising celebrities.

The event, including all financial aspects, fundraising, raffles, record keeping and management, shall be conducted in your name and is your sole responsibility.

Under this Agreement and to the extent permitted by law, AnglicareSA appoints you as its non-exclusive agent to solicit and receive donations on its behalf in connection with the event, you accept that appointment on the terms of this Agreement.

You must plan the event with the approval of AnglicareSA and AnglicareSA expects a reasonable level of liaison and information about the event. Any changes made from the original details provided on this Agreement must be reported to AnglicareSA and may result in a new sanction being authorised or the sanction being withdrawn.

You must use your best endeavours, at all times, to answer honestly any question directed to you in relation to the purpose of the event or the details of the event, or to arrange to find answers to questions that you are unable to answer. In particular, if requested, information is to be given as to how the gross income obtained from the event will be donated. You must not make any false or misleading representations in conducting the event.

You agree to comply with all applicable Fundraising Acts, other laws, regulations and by-laws (including all applicable privacy laws) and any other conditions which AnglicareSA may notify to you. In conducting the event, you agree to refrain from doing anything which may reasonably be expected to damage the goodwill, reputation or integrity of AnglicareSA.

AnglicareSA requires that there be no door-to-door appeals, street collections or telephone solicitation of any kind to the public in connection with

the event. The sole exception to this is an event involving street collections in the form of busking, if permitted by the relevant council or authority, in which case you are solely responsible for securing and maintaining any applicable permit.

Financial aspects of the eventAny expenditure involved with the conduct of your event and any disposition of funds and profits resulting from the event must be properly authorised by AnglicareSA before the commencement of the event. You must take all reasonable steps to ensure that the expenses do not exceed 40% of the gross proceeds obtained from the event. You must retain accurate, true and appropriate records in relation to particulars of all items of gross profit received, particulars of all expenditure incurred and particulars of all transactions in relation to the event.

You agree that you will not retain any part of the gross profits raised during the event as a commission, wage or other fee. All profit (minus fair and reasonable expenses) must be sent to AnglicareSA.

The proceeds of the event, the official sanction letter, and a statement of income and expenditure together with copies of receipts for all expenditure, are to be sent to AnglicareSA within 14 days of the conclusion of the Event.

ReceiptsReceipts can be issued for all money received, except where the money is received:

• In a collection box or in return for goods or services. Individual receipts for tax deductions for supporters of the event can be issued by AnglicareSA if that supporter makes a donation of $2.00 or more to AnglicareSA.

• When the supporter has received goods or services in return for money given (e.g. purchased raffle tickets or prizes at auction), a tax deductible receipt cannot be issued.

The use of AnglicareSA name and logo:Any advertising for the event must clearly disclose that the event is being conducted in support of AnglicareSA. Printed material and advertisements must state how the proceeds from the event are to benefit AnglicareSA, e.g. ‘all proceeds from this event’ or ‘all proceeds from the auction’.

You agree that you have no right to the names ‘AnglicareSA Limited’ or ‘AnglicareSA’ and that you do not have the right to raise funds in those names. This means you cannot call your event an AnglicareSA event i.e. AnglicareSA Trivia Night, however you can call it a “Trivia night in support of AnglicareSA”. AnglicareSA can assist with wording to describe the relationship between you and AnglicareSA for all fundraiser promotional material. Recommended wording would be, ‘This event proudly supports AnglicareSA’ or ‘Funds raised will assist disadvantaged South Australians’.

If you wish to use the AnglicareSA logo on any materials or products, you must obtain prior permission from AnglicareSA.

Any printed materials or advertisements to be used in relation to the event must be submitted to AnglicareSA for approval. Please allow 10 days for approval of your material.

Media and public relationsYou are responsible for generating your publicity. If the media require information about AnglicareSA they must contact the AnglicareSA media team. The fundraiser is not authorised to speak on behalf of AnglicareSA, only about the fundraising event. Please also make it clear you are raising money in aid of AnglicareSA and that you do not represent AnglicareSA.

AnglicareSA representativesAn AnglicareSA Representative can be arranged to attend your event depending on availability. At least three weeks’ notice is required. Please note: not all requests will be able to be met due to limited staff numbers and some event locations.

PermitsSome activities require permits e.g. raffles where the total prize pool is over $5,000. Permits may also required by councils and shopping centres for outdoor events. Please enquire with the relevant authorities (government bodies, local councils etc) to ensure you are complying with their regulations.

Liability and indemnityYou are solely responsible for all aspects of financial and public liability and public safety as the event organiser. You are solely responsible for ensuring that any space or venue used for your fundraising activities has the required public liability insurance. As AnglicareSA is not the event organiser, it does not provide any liability on your behalf.

You agree that AnglicareSA will be under no liability to you or any third party in respect of any loss or damage (including indirect, special or consequential loss or damage) which may be suffered or incurred or which may arise directly or indirectly in respect of any part of the fundraising activity.

You agree to release AnglicareSA from all actions, claims and demands arising as a result of any part of the fundraising activity.

You agree to release AnglicareSA from all claims, except where such liability arises because of any act, omission or negligence of AnglicareSA.

To the extent permitted by law, I indemnify AnglicareSA from and against any claim whatsoever arising at or from the event, including for loss or damage to any property or death or injury to any person. This indemnity does not extend to claims which arise from, or to the extent that they arise from, any act, omission or negligence of AnglicareSA.

Independent Legal AdviceAnglicareSA recommends that you seek independent legal advice prior to entering into this Agreement. I acknowledge that I have had sufficient opportunity to do so.

TerminationAnglicareSA may revoke the authorisation granted to you and terminate this Agreement at any time if, in AnglicareSA’s reasonable opinion, you engage in any act or omission which: as part of promoting the event, adversely affects the reputation of AnglicareSA; is prejudicial to the affairs of AnglicareSA; is contrary to the objectives of AnglicareSA; or brings AnglicareSA’s name into disrepute. If AnglicareSA revokes the authorisation granted to you, you must immediately cease any and all activities in connection with the event, including any organisational and/or promotional activities.

SeveranceIf any provision of this Agreement should be deemed prohibited, invalid or unenforceable in whole or in part in any jurisdiction, then that provision shall, to the extent necessary by law, be read down without invalidating the remaining provisions of this Agreement or affecting the validity or enforceability of that provision in any other jurisdiction.

Governing LawThis Agreement is governed by the laws of South Australia.
