What is in e-cigarette liquids?
Nicotine
Flavorings
Other chemicals
Sometimes, THC or other drugs or toxic substances
JUUL Juul was the first company to figure out
how to increase the amount of nicotine in the e-cigarettes while still making it palatable
Newly produced “nicotine salts” allow users to have about 5 times as much nicotine while still have it be palatable

E-Cigarettes have been associated with severe lung injury and death in some patients
E-Cigarettes have chemicals in them that are known to be harmful
3.5 times higher risk for smoking tobacco

cigarettes than a non-e-cigarette user
1 in 4 middle and high school students in Minnesota tried an e-cigarettes in 2017
16.7% of Winona County 11th graders used e-cigarettes in the past month (2016)•3.4% of 8th graders •10% of 9th graders
7 out of 10 high school students in
Winona County think vaping is a great or
moderate problem in their school
What can we do about it?

TOBACCO 21Raising the Minimum Legal Sale Age
Will Help Save Lives
A 2015 report by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) concluded that raising the tobacco sale age to 21 will have a substantial positive impact on public health and save lives. The IOM finds that raising the tobacco sale age will: • significantly reduce the number of adolescents and young adults who start smoking;• reduce smoking-caused deaths• immediately improve the health of adolescents, young adults and young mothers who would be deterred from smoking, as well as their children.

Use ‘I’ StatementsState what you don’t
intend to do
