The mission of Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) is to Grow healthy families

through the education and support of all families in providing the best possible

environment for the healthy growth and development of their children.

ECFE recognizes that families provide children their first and most important learning

environment and that parents are the children’s first and most significant teachers.

Classes hosted by ECFE will meet in

fall, winter and spring. You are

welcome to join us for any number of

terms, and registration will occur

prior to the start of each term.

Community Education office is located

at LCWM Secondary School.

Community Education courses and

programs are primarily hosted at

LCWM School facilities, but also occur

at other community facilities. Be sure

DADDY, DAUGHTER DANCE (Preschool - Grade 5)

Just in time for Valentine’s Day! Show that little girl how special she is by taking her to the annual Daddy, Daughter Dance. This night will make any daughter feel like a princess and every father smile ear to ear!

Light refreshments will be served. Professional photographs will be available.

Join us for an evening of family fun! This annual event is sure to be a blast once again. There will be games and prizes in the LCARC gym!

Date: Friday, March 29th Time: 6-8 p.m. Cost: $5.00 includes unlimited wristband for Bounce Houses and 10 Tickets for Games. Each additional ticket cost $0.50 each.

GRANDPARENTS STORYHOUR

Saturday, April 13 10 a.m. Lake Crystal Library

Join us for a special story hour community event. Bring Grandma and Grandpa to this fun event with stories and activities.

LAKE CRYSTAL AREA COMMUNITY BAND

For 30 years, the Lake Crystal Community Band has provided free local concerts to community members. The band also plays at the Lake Crystal Memorial Day Service.

Practices begin in April and continue through May. The Memorial Day Service is their first concert for the season. Throughout the month of June and July, the band provides free concerts at local community venues.

Band members are needed! If you are interested in becoming a band member, please contact Lois Davis at 507-726-2747 or contact the Community Ed. Office at 507-726-2673.

This activity is made possible by a grant pro-vided by the Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council from funds appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature.

Congratulations on having a baby! We want to celebrate you and your newborn! Please join us for a morning of socializing with other parents. We will have presenters on topics related to your newborn, vendors and new baby welcome packets full of goodies! Make sure your newborn is on the mailing list by calling the ECFE Office at 726-2320. FREE to anyone within LCWM School District that has had a baby join your family in the past year. 12

EARLY CHILDHOOD

SCREENING Screening is a quick and simple check of how your

child is doing at age 3 - 4 years. During the

screening, well-qualified staff will check your

child’s vision, hearing, growth, immunization

status, skills in thinking, communication and

language, large and small motor skills and

social/emotional development.

The screening is FREE OF CHARGE.

Children are required to have had an early

childhood screening done prior to entering

kindergarten.

Monday, April 1st from 8:00 - 3 p.m.

Location: LCWM Elementary School

Parents of children who are eligible for screening

will receive a letter inviting them to screen,

however, if your child is over 4 1/2 please call us

to schedule.

All children who have turned 3 years old before

November 1, 2018 are eligible for screening.

JUST TODDLING… TOGETHER

Evening Class

Parents and their toddlers play together in a room

full of toddler learning activities. You will participate

together in a teacher led circle time, full of music

and movement appropriate for your busy toddler.

Parents will have the opportunity to discuss

parenting joys and challenges of raising a toddler,

in addition to issues of interest to the group. A par-

ent educator will facilitate discussion time, while

your child will enjoy play directed by the early

childhood teacher and assistant.

teacher led circle. Parents will have the

opportunity to discuss parenting issues with

a parent facilitator.

Evening Class

Parents and children are learning, exploring, and having lots of fun together in this class. Each week brings something new and different such as professional presenters, cooking, field trips, and of course lots of opportunities to play together in the preschool classroom which is set up specifically for you and your preschoolers. Class is taught by an Early Childhood Professional. Parents and children will always separate for this class. Ages can be somewhat flexible.

A fun, openly structured recreation program for children ages 5-12 years. Weekly activities call attention to important social and intellectual skills to promote individual growth and

respect for others. Children are given time to play, explore, and learn in a caring environment. All dates are consistent with LCWM Dist. 2071 no school, late start, and

early out dates with the exception of major holidays. If school closes on an unscheduled date due to weather or other emergency, Fit Kids will close also.

Learn self-discipline, get in shape, and increase confidence and focus all at once by learning Tae Kwon Do! Tae Kwon Do is offered at the LCARC through Lee’s Champion Tae Kwon Do. Call the LCARC for times and details.

For boys & girls who want to learn fundamental skills, sportsmanship and have fun with basketball.

Join the soccer club to build on the fundamentals of the game and to be able to play a little more competitively as a team. Our purpose is to promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, achievement, excellence, self-confidence and fun for players and their families through the game of soccer.

Ready to babysit? The purpose of the American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training course is to provide youth ages 11-15 with the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or adult guardians. Our 8U program is played here in Lake Crystal, on Sunday evenings, starting in June and will run for 6 weeks with an end of the season tournament in July.

Our 10U and older program is run through Southern Star Softball and will start at the end of May, and runs through mid July. Exact dates are set by Southern Star and will not be known until the schedules come out in the first part of May. Games are played here in Lake Crystal, as well as in other surrounding cities in the Southern Star Program.

TEEN HIGH SCHOOL DRIVER’S ED

This course is designed to prepare the first-time driving student with the information and knowledge required to pass the Minnesota Driver’s permit test and the Minnesota Class D Driver’s License test. This class requires the student to complete 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction. These hours are mandated by law if a student under the age of 18 is to acquire a Driver Permit or License.

Water Aerobics:

Wet & Wild - A moderate to high inten-

sity class that focuses on 30-45 minutes of cardio, up to 15 minutes of strength/toning and up to 15 minutes of abdominal exercises.

Aqua Fit - A lower intensity class con-

sists mainly of muscle toning and flexibil-ity with some cardiovascular work.

*All skills can be modified/adjusted to meet the needs of each individual.

Session Dates -

Session 1: January 2 - Feb 16

Session 2: February 18 - April 6

Session 3: April 8 - May 25

Notes - If there is bad weather, call the LCARC

before arriving to be sure the instructor is

able to make it to class.

Purchase a new punch card at the

beginning of each session. The Unlimited

Pass lasts the entire Winter-Spring

season.

Punches do not carry over to the next

session.

No refunds will be given on

punches once the session has

started.
