Asagrassrootscommunitybasedorganization,wedrawourstrengthfromthecommunity.Andthecommunityrespondedmagnificentlyandgenerouslythispastyear:meeting—and exceeding—the Welch Family Challenge inoctober,supportingtheCAPFoundation’sDinner innovember,theWalkn’Knockfoodandmoney donationsinDecember,andourannualGiveToAGoodCauseappeal.likewise,manyCAPservicesaredependentuponourhundredsofdedicatedvolunteers,andCAP’s volunteerswerethereeveryday,everyweek,throughouttheyear. early edition Rotary’s harvest Classic breaks All Records Forits30thanniversary,theHarvestClassicrun/walkdrew388participantson october2,breakingallofitspreviousrecordsbyraising$7500tosupportthearea’sfoodbanks.EarlyEditionRotaryorganizestheeventeachyearasa fundraiserforCAP’sHelpWarehouse,thefoodcollectionanddistributioncenter forCowlitzandWahkiakumfoodbanks.

Dine out for meals on wheels onTuesday,May4,peopleeatingatoneof14localrestaurantswerealsosupportingMealsonWheels.Eachrestaurantdonatedapercentageofthatday’srevenues,totaling$4750,toCAP’sprogramwhichdelivershotandfrozendinnerstohomeboundseniorsthroughouttheyear.

weatherization works TheAmericanRecovery&ReinvestmentAct(“Stimulus”)fundsusedforweatherizationreducedfamilies’energycosts,increasedthecommunity’senergyconservation,andensuredjobsforlocalcontractorsandtheiremployees.overthepastyearCAP’sEnergy&HousingDepartmenthasweatherized113lowincomefamilies’homes,resultinginsignificantcostsavings.Forexample,Mr.RonaldTaylorfromCastleRocksawhisPuDelectricbilldropfrom$148inJanuary2009to$82inJanuary2010,andhismonthlyusagedecreasedfrom5,779kilowatthoursto2,787.That’sasavingsforthefamilies,butitisalsoasavingsforthecommunitywheneverkilowattusageisreduced.

Financial independence Center• 102low income families developed assetsin2010(a total of 191 families have

saved $374,400,sincetheprogrambegan, resulting in asset purchases totaling more than $11,258,750.)

• 200peopletooktheMoneySmart courseonmoneymanagementin2010,including 12 youth (a total of 650 peoplehavetakenthecoursesince2007)

• 1150 people received assistance with their tax preparation (including AARP volunteer Tax Aides)

Senior Community lunches• 18,352 meals served at lunch sites in CastleRock,Cathlamet,Kalama,Kelso,

lexington,longview,Rosburg,Ryderwoodand Woodland

Vocational Skills training• 657jobseekersreceivedtraining orjobsearchassistance

• 333dislocatedworkers&lowincomeadultsfoundjobsatanaveragestatingwage of $13.87/hr

• 136 individuals received professional credentialsandcertification

Volunteer Center of Cowlitz-wahkiakum• 618 active volunteers provided a total of 100,687 hours of service to the

community,valuedat$2,130,536

weatherization• 113homes were weatherized (106 with Stimulus funds)

• Currently,29 homes are in process of beingweatherized.

• Weatherized homes result in an average savings of 33% to homeowners

TimWelchandleeHutton-WelchfromWoodlandchallengedthe communitytomatchtheirpledgeof$35,000betweenoctober1- october15,tobuildtheCAPFoundation’sendowment.Thecommunityrosetothechallenge,donatingfarmorethantheWelchesorthe FoundationBoardexpected,over$57,000.Timandleegraciouslyagreed to go beyond their original pledge and match every dollar contributed.Andtheywanttodoitagainin2011.

CAp Foundation Dinner for the “new homeless” Recognizing the plight of the “new homeless” —those families who have become homeless because of the economic recession--the CAP Foundation held its second annual dinner onnovember13toraisefundsforCAP’s HomelessnessPreventionProgram.Portland TV personality Wayne Garcia was the master of ceremonies at the eventthatraised$56,260.

Community Foundation partnership establishedToenhanceitsvisibilityinthecommunityandsouthwestWashington, the CAP Foundation entered into a partnership with the Community FoundationofSWWashingtonin2010tomanagetheassetsofour endowmentfund.TheLower Columbia CAP Foundation Fund was established at the CommunityFoundationtobenefitfromtheirinvestmentexpertise,gainedfromyearsofsuccessfully managingcharitablefundsthatnowtotalalmost$60million,aswellasfromtheirabilitytoprocess complexassets,andtoprovideCAPadditionalexposuretoprospectivedonorsthroughouttheregion.
