We are quickly coming to the end of
our summer study of the storyline of the Old
Testament. My hope is that those who have
been a part of this study have found it as in-
teres+ng, challenging, and inspira+onal as I
have. It is these Old Testament scriptures
which reveal the founda+onal truths about
God that form our understanding of who he
truly is. In addi+on, it is difficult to have a true
concept of who Jesus is without understand-
ing the ways God prepared the world for Je-
sus' coming by making promises concerning
him for hundreds of years before Jesus came
to be our savior. The way the Old Testament
points so clearly and specifically to the com-
ing, death, and resurrec+on of Jesus provides
great evidence that our faith in him is built on
a firm founda+on.
In August, we covered the books of 1
and 2 Samuel and 1 and 2 Kings. The books of
Samuel presented the LORD as a Rock: provid-
ing protec+on and salva+on for those who
trust him and bringing judgment and destruc-
+on to those who defy him. The highlight of 1
and 2 Samuel was the Davidic Covenant (2
Samuel 7) in which God promises that the
throne of David will be established forev-
er. Parts of this covenant was fulfilled in the
life of David's son Solomon, but much of what
is promised awaits it's fulfillment un+l Jesus
returns to establish his kingdom. In 1 and 2
Kings, we saw that the LORD always does what
he says he will do. Throughout the +me of the
kings of Israel and Judah, when they followed
the commands of the LORD, he brought about
the blessings he had promised them. Also,
when they turned from the LORD to serve oth-
er gods, he brought about the curses he had
warned them about. These books end with
both Israel and Judah in cap+vity having been
overtaken by their enemies as the LORD had
warned them. All along the way, God sent
prophets with warnings and promises, and
every word they spoke was true. Many of the
proclama+ons of the prophets were fulfilled
during the +me of the kings while others con-
cerning the Messiah awaited their fulfillment
un+l the coming of Jesus. What was certain
from 1 and 2 Kings was that if the LORD said it,
you be<er believe it will come to pass.
In September, we will be wrapping up
our study of the Old Testament storyline with a
look at the books of Ezra and Nehemiah. We
will then have a special Sunday celebra+ng
Sunday School promo+on and the Kick Off of
our Awana club year. Toward the end of Sep-
tember, my plan is to start a study of the New
Testament book of Romans. Romans is the
book of the Bible which most clearly details all

of the founda+onal truths of the Chris+an faith. In it, the
Gospel message is explained fully from a theological point
of view and also from a prac+cal point of view. Anyone
with lingering ques+ons about the Chris+an faith and any-
one who desires to gain a be<er understanding of the
Chris+an faith in order to be<er share it with others will
benefit greatly from this study.
On August 2, while I was on vaca+on, we had a
guest speaker who I had hoped would work out for our
church as a candidate to become our associate pastor to
work with our youth. Unfortunately, he feels that God is
direc+ng him and his family to con+nue faithfully serving
in the church he currently is serving. What this means is
that we will have to come up with a plan to streamline
what we are doing with our youth and find some short
term help while we con+nue to seek God's direc+on for
an associate pastor. I appreciate all of you who have been
faithful in praying for me personally and for the church as
well. Please con+nue to pray that God would direct us
through each step of this process.

Dear Zion Church Family, Thank you so much for the gift basket. It will be very helpful when I am in Omaha. I’ve appreciated all that you have done for me throughout the years. I’ll miss you all a lot but I’ll be home visiting through the school year. Thanks again! Adam Harris
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . We are truly blessed to be part of such a wonder-ful church family. Thank you so much for all the love and concern we received during the loss of my step Mom and step brother. The cards, thoughts and prayers mean more than you know. From breakfast muffins to dinner Friday night and desserts, we had enough food to feed my entire very large family. The Ladies Guild gave up their Saturday to serve the lunch after the service. Your example of Christ's love did not go unnoticed. Thank you all so much. Jeff and Lori Reifschneider and the family of Sue Ehrman and Brian Gueck.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . Dear Zion, Thank you for the DVD that you gave me for graduation. I appreciate the support have you have given me. Sincerely, Tommy Rose

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS:
Please mark your calendars for September 13th ~ our
ALL CHURCH PICNIC sponsored by Sunday School.
We are excited for our picnic. There will be fun for
everyone ~ gospel singing, and a big surprise for the
kids! After the singing, we are going to have some
inflatables: a bounce house and an obstacle course
that kids (and adults if they so desire) can run and
jump on. Sunday School will be providing the fried
chicken, drinks and table service. There will be a sign
up sheet at the Welcome Center so we know how
much chicken to buy. That Sunday will also be our
Sunday School Dedication of our teachers and Awana
staff as well as promotion to the next class. What a
great start to our fall year.
We have ordered our teaching material and we are
finishing up painting and cleaning of our Sunday
School Department. We will have an Open House on
Sept 13th so please stop by and see all the Sunday
School rooms. Please remember, you are always wel-
come in your child’s classroom. Pray for our teachers
and kids. We love teaching them about God.
We also want to take this time to thank Ashley Rob-
bins for her dedicated years of teaching Sunday
School. Ashley will be working full time this fall, and
is taking a break from teaching. . .so we wish you the
best, Ashley! Thank you so much for all you did.

FAMILY NIGHT . . .
Please watch your
Bulletin for the date
and time that We will be meeting.
YOUTHYOUTHYOUTHYOUTH ---- Throughout the summer I have been
meeting with the youth group informally on Sun-
day afternoons. We have had a group of about
12 to 15 most weeks throughout the sum-
mer. We have spent time hiking, swimming at
the lake, and floating the river among other
things. In August, I was also able to take a
group of 16 to Elitch Gardens in Denver for some
fun. Good weather, safe travel, and a great
group of kids made this trip really enjoyable.
During the school year, we are going to
have to make some adjustments to our youth
ministry schedule. I have planned a meeting with
parents of our youth on Sept. 2 at 6pm to ex-
plain what we are doing. The plan is to combine
youth group, confirmation, and Senior High Bible
Study into one weekly event on Wednesday
nights. From 7-8pm each Wednesday, we will
play youth group games with the entire
group. From 8-9pm, we will separate to have a
combined Confirmation class for the 7/8th graders
while the Senior High students meet for Bible
Study. We are working toward having someone
hired on an interim basis to teach the Senior
High Bible study and maybe do some other work
with our youth. I plan to continue to meet with
our Senior High/College students on Sunday nights
after Awana for prayer and fellowship as
well. Please be in prayer for our youth ministry
efforts as well as our search for an associate pas-
tor to work with our youth.

~ AWANA NEWS ~
As of this writing, the 2014-15 club year is “officially” over! Yes, I said 2014-15 as we had our annual swim-
ming reward party this afternoon, Sunday, August 23rd. This swimming party is for the clubbers that start-
ed and completed their handbook last club year. We were a small group this year due to less clubbers finish-
ing their handbook but also possibly because it was a little on the chilly side as the temperature only got up
to about 70 degrees. (As long as you stayed in the water, though, it wasn’t bad at all!!!)
I am praying that our Staff and clubbers had a relaxing and restful summer and are ready to “hit the ground
running”. Some of the AWANA and Sunday School Staff didn’t take much time to rest as we tackled the
much needed, past due project of painting and sprucing up our Sunday School wing. It was hard, messy and
tiring but the time spent fellowshipping with church family was really enjoyable! We are excited about how it
is turning out!!! Please take some time to go check it out!
Kick-Off will be on Sunday, September 13th for the 2015-16 club year. The AWANA and Sunday School
staffs will be dedicated at the 10:30 a.m. Worship Service (AWANA Staff: Please wear your uniforms!!!)
followed by the All Church Picnic. There will be some gospel singing entertainment as well as inflatables for
(Continued on page 6)

the kids to enjoy. We are going to do things a little differently for registration this year, AWANA
families, so watch for a flyer in the mail coming soon to inform you of the details!
The AWANA Staff will have the opportunity to attend this year’s Ministry Conference – titled, “One
Mission, Many Methods” at Monument Bible Church on Saturday, September 19th. Then on the follow-
ing Sunday, September 20th we will hold an Open House for our AWANA families and anyone else in the
congregation that would like to see what happens each club night at AWANA as well as check out the
newly updated Sunday School Wing!!!
There are LOTS of fun activities being planned for this club year so please plan on bringing your chil-
dren/grandchildren to AWANA each Sunday afternoon from 3:30-5:30 so they don’t miss out!!! We, as
a Staff, are committed to being here and all we ask is that you partner with us to bring the kids – your
own, neighborhood kids, grandkids, etc. to club so that we can present God’s message of salvation! We
all have a “position” to fill in order to make the AWANA Ministry here at Zion glorifying to God – it may
not be as a leader in club – but you can commit to praying each week for the staff and clubbers, you can
support us financially, there is a dear lady that for several years has made &/or donated items for raf-
fles, you could donate food items for our special events throughout the club year . . . there are “many
methods” of accomplishing this “one mission” !!! ☺ Let me know how you would like to help out!!!
Excited, as always, to see what God has for us this club year – check out the newsletter each month to
stay up-to-date!!!
Thankful that GOD IS IN CONTROL,
Cheryl Rose, Commander
Circle of Praise
