1. Presentation of the Equipment

This equipment is representative of the current communication standards used in industry:

Asynchronous serial link.

Sensor / actuator bus.

Heterogeneous industrial bus.

Ethernet local area network (LAN).

Internet technology.

1.1 Overview

The assembly consists in a case containing:

Two industrial PLCs, TSX Premium and Twido.

A Magelis dialogue terminal.

A set of components used for the various communication modes.

Technical data of the main components

A TSX Premium PLC with a communication module for AS-i bus, an Ethernet coupler module, a point to point and Modbus communication module equipped with a PCMCIA card. The communication channels are already cabled (UniTelway, Modbus, Point to Point and AS-i).

Modbus hub, connecting the different elements using this communication mode, with channel connections to PLC and to starter-controller with RJ45 connectors.

AS-i power supply: switching power supply AS-i 30Vdc 2.4A

Button box for AS-i bus, comprising two illuminated push-buttons green and red

Twido PLC, comprising a module with 12 digital inputs and 8 digital outputs (double terminal block for HE10 connectors) and an RS485 Modbus communication module.

Ethernet Modbus gateway for Twido PLC

Magelis XBT terminal with an alphanumeric screen of a 4 lines by 20 characters, numeric keyboard, 12 function keys and 3 system keys. A 25-point socket associated with a selector switch allows connection to a computer for application downloading.

RS232 point to point local communication: ASCII characters, format, output, control, PC and PLC configuration,

Point to point link via the public switched telephone network, HAYES character set.

AS-i sensor / actuator bus: master / slave, addressing, polling principles,

Multipoint industrial UniTelway and Modbus bus: protocol, transparency and system query principles,

exchange between a PC and a PLC: dialog construction,

internet technology on Ethernet LAN with the TSX Web server function: PC and internet browser configuration, site update and creation of HTML pages,

OFS, OPC Factory Server: object concept enabling computer applications (VB, C++) to access a PLC memory,,

exchanges between PLC’s via an Ethernet LAN: data read/write on remote system,

internet technologies on an Ethernet LAN: IP address, subnetwork name, SNTP server,

remote maintenance or programming with HTML pages or PL7 Pro software and XIP driver.

2. Teaching

2.1 Presentation of teaching

The communication case allows:

Learn and master the basic principles of communication.

Implement exchanges between modems, PLC’s and display units.

Study the features of PLC’s and view the contents of different protocols.

Handle examples of communication architecture in industrial machines.

3. Elements supplied with the equipment

3.1 Equipment supplied

The assembly MD1AE845TW containing:

A standalone case containing all the components required for exercises and a storage area for the various accessories (leads, software, etc.).

A TSX Premium PLC - computer connecting lead.

An Ethernet (Modbus) gateway - PLC connecting lead.

A Modbus splitter block - PLC connecting lead.

A Modbus line end.

A connecting lead between the control button box and the AS-i bus.

A standard 4-port HUB.

2 RJ45 network cables, 1 m long.

2 RJ45 network cables, 0.50 m long.
